The biggest difference is that balanced trainers are willing to LEARN about tools and use them ethically when appropriate instead of believing there is only one correct approach for every dog on the planet.
At the end of the day, the goal should never be ideology over the dog in front of you 🤍

The reality is that fear, reactivity, anxiety, over-arousal, poor recall, and lack of engagement are usually far more complex than hormones alone.
This also doesn’t mean I’m anti-spay/neuter. I absolutely believe most pet dogs should eventually be altered. But timing matters, and these decisions should be based on the individual dog in front of you, not used as a replacement for training, structure, fulfillment, and proper outlets.
Your dog still needs guidance, communication, consistency, and training regardless of whether they’re intact or altered 🤍

I know this trend is meant to be funny, but my honest answer is simple. I’d rather have an ethically bred dog that actually fits into real life.
Not just something that looks good on social media or fits a trend, but a dog with stability, structure, and the ability to function in everyday environments.
At the end of the day, it’s not about “purebred vs doodle” or any of that surface-level stuff for me.
It’s about ethics, purpose, temperament, and setting dogs up for success in the real world.
Here’s to picking function over trends.

These past two years have brought some of the most beautiful moments of my life, and also some of the lowest. It’s been a real emotional roller coaster in ways I never expected.
And I’m still learning how to navigate life through all of it, just like everyone else. Learning how to hold the highs and the lows at the same time, and still find ways to live in between everything.
It’s definitely easier said than done, but I wanted to share this perspective because what you see online is never the full story.
And honestly… that’s just not reality.
So I wanted to share a more real snapshot of what I’m currently working through with my own dogs at home right now.
None of my dogs are perfect, and I don’t expect them to be.
They’re dogs, living real lives, with real emotions, and ongoing learning just like everyone else.
And as a trainer, I think it’s actually really important to say that out loud.
Training isn’t a finished product. It’s an ongoing conversation.

I don’t train dogs on the weekends. That time is strictly reserved for my dogs. I’ve seen far too many trainers burn themselves out trying to squeeze weekend sessions in, leaving no time for themselves or their own dogs—and I refuse to be a part of that.
So no, I can’t work with your dog on the weekend. Your understanding means I can show up fully focused and energized for weekday sessions—and my dogs get the attention they deserve. (Boarding dogs are the exception)
