For this photo series, I wanted to focus on Indonesian hijabis to show a simple reality: wearing a hijab is a proud symbol of faith and a personal choice of identity, not a sign of oppression. Muslim women here have the absolute freedom to dress up however they want, expressing themselves on their own terms.
Since Iโm showcasing this work in Japan, I specifically wanted to explore a โHarajukuโ take on modest fashion. There was only one person I had in mind for this: the one and only Sheโs always been known for her bold, quirky style, and Iโm so glad she was down to join the project and bring this vision to life.
