“Calm down.”
“Stop overreacting.”
“You’re being too sensitive.”
And then we get in the car after a hard day and completely fall apart over a small inconvenience.
We cry in the bathroom.
We slam things quietly so nobody hears.
We give the silent treatment instead of saying what we actually feel.
We are doing the same thing. Just behind closed doors.
…………………………
And then we wonder why our children can’t name what they’re feeling.
Why they shut down when things get hard.
Why they explode instead of express.
Mama — they learned it from watching us.
Not because we are bad mothers.
But because nobody taught us either.
…………………….
We were raised in homes where emotions were dismissed.
Where crying was weakness.
Where “I’m fine” was the only acceptable answer.
Where big feelings were something to be fixed — not felt.
And we carried all of that into motherhood completely unaware.
Until our child had a meltdown and we realised —
We have never actually learned how to do this either.
………………….
This is why respectful parenting changed everything for me.
Because it didn’t just give me tools for my children.
It gave me permission to finally tend to myself too.
To learn what I never learned.
To feel what I was never allowed to feel.
To speak to myself with the same gentleness I was trying to give my children.
And subhanAllah —
Allah placed the command of mercy — rahma — at the very centre of our deen.
Ar Rahman. Ar Raheem.
His very names are mercy.
And He instructed us to extend that mercy to ourselves just as we extend it to others.
You cannot pour rahma into your child from an empty vessel.
The healing has to start with you.
………………………
Save this for the days you forget 🤍
Drop a 🤍 in the comments if you are learning emotional regulation alongside your children. And drop a 👇 if you agree with the unpopular opinion — let’s have the honest conversation.
Before I could even think about how I speak to my children —
I had to get honest about the voice inside my own head.
Where did it come from?
Who planted it?
And is it kind?
———————————————————————————
For a lot of us — the answer is hard.
Because we were raised in a time when correction was loud.
When emotions were dismissed.
When “stop crying or I’ll give you something to cry about” was just — normal.
Nobody was trying to hurt us.
But some of those words took root anyway.
And we have been watering them ever since.
———————————————————————————
So when I stumbled on respectful parenting —
When I started understanding how a child’s inner world is built —
I didn’t just see my child differently.
I finally understood myself.
Why I speak to myself harshly when I make a mistake.
Why I shrink when someone raises their voice.
Why I find it so hard to believe I am enough.
It wasn’t weakness.
———————————————————————————
And subhanAllah —
This is where Islam met everything for me.
Because Allah says He is As-Salam. The source of peace.
And the Prophet ﷺ modeled a gentleness with children that the world is still trying to catch up to.
He never shamed.
He never belittled.
He corrected with mercy —
Because he understood that how you speak to someone shapes not just their behaviour —
It shapes their relationship with themselves. And with Allah.
————————————————————————
So I made a decision.
The cycle ends with me.
Not perfectly.
Not without bad days.
Not without moments I have to go back and repair.
But intentionally.
Every gentle word I choose today is rewriting a script —
For my child.
And quietly — for the little version of me that needed to hear it too.
————————————————————————
If you needed a sign to parent differently than you were parented —
This is it.
You are not betraying where you came from.
You are building so
Making du’a for patience and then having children is basically signing up for the world’s most intense, most humbling, most beautiful training programme.
And nobody warned us.
Because Fajr to me is peaceful.
Fajr to me has goals and intentions and a whole plan for the day.
And then —
Someone needs a snack.
Someone can’t find their shoe.
Someone is crying and they don’t even know why.
Someone just poured an entire cup of water on the floor and is looking at me like “what are you going to do about it.”
And Fajr to me? It has completely left the building.
But here’s what I’ve been sitting with lately.
What if the chaos didn’t come after the worship?
What if the chaos IS the worship?
The Prophet ﷺ said the strong person is not the one who wrestles others to the ground. The strong person is the one who controls themselves in anger.
Allah didn’t send me patience in a quiet room with a cup of tea.
He sent it to me in a loud house with little people who need me — testing every single layer of who I am and who I am still becoming.
And subhanAllah —
Every time I choose gentleness over reaction.
Every time I take that breath instead of raising my voice.
Every time I get on the floor and co-regulate instead of losing it —
That is not just good parenting.
That is jihad an nafs. And it counts.
So to the mama who made du’a at Fajr and is already being tested by 7am —
Allah heard you.
This is the answer.
You are not failing the test.
You are passing it one breath at a time.
Share this with the mama who needs it today 🤍
And drop a 😂🤍 in the comments if your kids received the du’a memo this morning.
Because nobody in this space talks about that part.
Everyone shows you the repair conversations and the co-regulation wins and the child who used their words beautifully.
Nobody shows you the Tuesday afternoon where you’ve said the same thing fourteen times, your toddler is screaming, the baby hasn’t slept, dinner is burning —
And every single thing you learned about mindful parenting
completely leaves your body.
And in that moment someone says -
“See. This is why it doesn’t work.”
And part of you wants to agree with them.
I’ve been there more times than I can count.
Gone back to raising my voice.
Gone back to “because I said so.”
And every single time the house went quiet and the kids were asleep —
I sat with a heaviness in my chest that I couldn’t shake.
Not because I was a bad mother.
But because my soul already knew the difference between reacting and responding.
And once you know — you can’t unknow.
That’s the thing nobody prepares you for.
Respectful parenting doesn’t just change how you parent.
It changes you.
It rewires the way you see your child’s behaviour. The way you understand their big emotions. The way you hear the cry behind the tantrum instead of just the tantrum.
And subhanAllah — it rewired the way I understood Allah’s mercy too.
Because if I — an imperfect, exhausted, still-learning mother — can choose to respond to my child with grace instead of anger —
How much more is Allah’s mercy for me when I fall short?
How much more does He keep returning to me when I keep returning to Him?
Respectful parenting taught me tawbah in a way no lecture ever did.
You fall. You repair. You return. You try again.
With your child. With yourself. With Allah.
The mama who keeps returning to gentleness even when it’s hard- she is not failing. She’s becoming.
Save this for the hard days 🤍
Not the one who has it all figured out.
Not the one with the perfectly designed playroom and a hot meal on the table every night.
This page is for the mom who is doing her absolute best — and some days, her best looks like cereal for dinner 😅 and a prayer she barely finished.😳

I believe that raising kids with grace, intention, and faith doesn’t require perfection. It just requires showing up — even on the hard days. Especially on the hard days.
So if you’ve ever cried in the bathroom, whispered a dua in the school pickup line, or googled “is this normal” at 2am — You belong here.
Save this post to come back to on the days you need a reminder that you’re not alone. 💛

After good news, after eating, after something went my way.
But recently, I started saying it… slowly.
Really feeling it.
Really meaning it.
Alhamdulilah… for the ease.
Alhamdulilah… for the delay.
Alhamdulilah… even when I don’t understand what Allah is doing.
And something shifted.
Gratitude stopped being something I only felt when life was going well…
and became something I held onto especially when it wasn’t.
Because not everything that feels hard is bad for me.
And not everything that feels good is what’s best for me.
Saying Alhamdulilah slowly reminds me that there is wisdom in every situation…
even the ones I wouldn’t choose for myself.
It softens my heart.
It grounds me.
It brings me back to trust.
So now, whether it’s a good day or a heavy one…
I’m learning to pause and say it with intention.
Alhamdulilah always. 🤍

Some days I respond with patience, softness, and understanding…
and other days, I raise my voice, feel overwhelmed, and wish I handled things differently.
Respectful parenting isn’t about being calm all the time.
It’s not about having perfectly behaved children or always knowing the “right” thing to say.
It’s in the moments after…
When I take a breath, come back, and say “I’m sorry.”
When I choose connection over control, even when it’s hard.
When I remind myself that my child is still learning — and honestly, so am I.
I’m learning that the goal isn’t perfection… it’s repair.
It’s showing my child that love doesn’t disappear after hard moments.
That feelings are safe. That they are safe.
So if today felt hard for you too, you’re not alone 🤍
You’re still a good mum. You’re still doing better than you think.

My kids and I would receive Eidi from my dad, we’d sit together with chai, cut the cake, laugh, talk about everything and nothing, and just enjoy being in each other’s presence. There was no rush, no pressure — just warmth, familiarity, and that quiet happiness that comes from being home.
That’s how we would always wrap up our Eid.
But this year felt different.
This is the first Eid after marriage and having kids that I’m spending away from my parents… and it hit me in ways I didn’t expect. There was this emptiness that lingered throughout the day — like something was missing no matter how much we tried to fill it.
And it didn’t help that the next day, Ayra innocently said, “Let’s invite Mama and Papa to our house.” 🥲
In that moment, it really sank in how much we all felt their absence.
Some traditions you don’t realise the value of until you can’t live them the same way anymore.
But Alhamdulillah, for the blessings we still have, for being able to celebrate, and for the hope that InshaAllah many Eids together are still to come 🤍

As a mom it may seem like your worship is happening on the go. You don’t really get to sit down properly and just focus without interruptions.
Whether you’re making zikr as you prepare Iftar, making dua while putting your kids to sleep, or reading a few verses of the Quran between tasks - it all counts.
You might feel guilty for not doing enough.
But Muslim moms, I’m here to remind you: the effort you’re putting in - and your consistency in the little things - matters more than you think.
The work you’re doing in the kitchen counts.
Taking care of your children while fasting counts.
Choosing patience when you’re exhausted counts.
Holding your tongue when you’re overwhelmed counts.
Allah sees the unseen.
This season of your life may look different, but it is not lesser. Your Ramadan is not behind — it’s just written uniquely for you.
Keep showing up. Keep trying. Keep turning back to Him.
Even the quiet, hidden acts are heavy on the scale. 🤍🌙

This time around we couldn’t - and that’s okay.
I still spoke to my kids about Ramadan with excitement, and we have been doing a little countdown for it.
I’ve also been listening to a talk on preparing for Ramadan spiritually, trying to get my heart ready.
I’m taking mental notes on all the deeds I want to do mindfully.
No Rushing.
More Praying.
More Pausing.
More Presence.
Tell me - how have you been preparing for Ramadan this year?🤍
