The shop window is always an inspiring place to get creative with displays and think of how different parts of our assortment can come together. Here we have some John Derian decoupage from New York and Japanese silk screen printed decorative papers feature a Heian courtier scene.
Last night was riveting – better than Gwyneth Paltrow’s court case! In the role of prosecutor #1, CK delivered the opening statement (watch at minute 6.35); Jack from Lime acted as the Villain, although not so charismatic nor able to answer any questions with heft, and made lots of promises to fix things privately outside of any scrutiny; but the real hero of the day, our ward councillor Awale Olad, free to speak truth to power now that he will be soon standing down (but who has also been, to be fair, vocal publicly about his distaste for the scheme) delivered the click-bait oratorical deathblow line for Lime, namely that it is “a terrible, mendacious, incompetent, irresponsible company that should no longer be operating in London.”

I am trying to give some levity to a situation that made me very sad: in Camden, according to the borough’s most recent report (Jan 2025), only 2% of Lime bike journeys displace car use. By all councillors’ own admission, a majority if not all their case work is dedicated to Lime bike complaints (not homelessness, not public health, not anything we really need), and thus the council put all its energy and resources into something that not only doesn’t deliver on climate but also is a scheme which benefits the fittest in our society against the interests of the more vulnerable minority, which the council should protect statutorily under the equality act.

A small stationery shop shouldn’t have to spend three years chasing the council over a health and safety issue.

Since June 2023, a Lime bike bay imposed outside our shop has created ongoing safety concerns, with the real costs displaced onto women, shop workers and the public realm.

Public safety is not something you manage after the fact, as recent events reported in Crans-Montana starkly remind us.

That’s why today I’m speaking at Camden’s Culture and Environment Scrutiny Committee about Lime bikes, the Equality Act, the Highway Act, and Camden’s agreement with Lime.

For anyone interested, the meeting is open to the public and live online.

From the Leather and Lacquer collection but with a Valentine’s twist - textures of pink, in Japanese Urushi lacquer, moulded Italian leather and British archival leatherette boxes, it’s all about the softness and sensuality of nude colour like skin. Ooh la la!

New Year, new Notebook. Here a little peak into the factory where Choosing Keeping Notebooks are made. Engaging with industry and how and where things are made isn’t usual for small shops but it’s one of the values and passions of our business. We personally visit most of our suppliers and that’s a gage of quality for you our customers to know that we have seen how things our made with our own eyes and can stand behind the products and people who made them.

London in the snow, it’s not Val d’Isere, but still a welcome sight, especially against the backdrop of old shopfronts. Today is the 6th of January a traditional date for the removal of Christmas decorations, and so does our shop window, until next year for some more Christmas sillyness.
