A Síndrome Metabólica Ovariana Poli-endócrina (PMOS) é o novo nome para a condição anteriormente conhecida como Síndrome dos Ovários Policísticos (SOP / PCOS) — uma síndrome que afeta 1 em cada 8 mulheres no mundo, mais de 170 milhões de pessoas.
A mudança foi resultado de uma das maiores mobilizações globais já realizadas para a atualização do nome de uma condição médica, com mais de 22 mil respostas em pesquisas, workshops com mulheres que convivem com a síndrome e profissionais de saúde, além da participação de 56 organizações de pacientes e sociedades médicas internacionais.
A proposta é adotar uma nomenclatura que represente de forma mais fiel a complexidade metabólica e endócrina da síndrome.

Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) is the new name for the condition previously known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) — a syndrome that affects 1 in 8 women worldwide, more than 170 million people.
This change follows one of the largest global collaborations ever undertaken for a medical renaming, with over 22,000 survey responses, workshops with women living with the condition and health professionals, and the participation of 56 patient organizations and medical societies worldwide.
The goal is to adopt a name that better reflects the complex metabolic and endocrine nature of the syndrome.
A 3-year transition period has been established, during which PCOS and PMOS will coexist, until the new terminology is fully incorporated into the 2028 International PMOS Guideline.
