Six months ago, Mayor Helena Moreno stepped into office carrying the hopes, frustrations, and expectations of an entire city. People always ask me, “How does she do it?” And honestly, I still don’t know I’ve watched her move from meetings to neighborhoods, ceremonies to crisis calls, never losing sight of the people behind every decision. What I do know is that she deeply loves New Orleans. Not just the culture, the celebrations, or the beauty we show the world, but the people, the neighborhoods, and the parts of this city that have waited far too long to be seen and served. She knows the work is far from finished, but she shows up every day determined to move New Orleans forward. Six months in, the progress is real. The pressure is heavy. The commitment is even stronger. Congratulations, Mayor Moreno. This city is fortunate to have someone fighting for it with her whole heart.
From Sideline to City Hall in 2020, during the uncertainty of the pandemic, I picked up a camera. I wasn’t chasing a title or trying to become anyone’s favorite photographer. I was simply looking for a creative outlet that would eventually change my life.

Five years later, that decision has taken me farther than I ever imagined. From photographing the NFL, NBA, WNBA, NCAA, MLB, and WWE to documenting historic moments at City Hall and building Channel 91 Photography and C91 Media. Along the way, I also Founded KickNBack NOLA Foundation, proving that the camera was never just about taking pictures. It became a tool to tell stories, create opportunities, and pour back into the community that raised me. I’m grateful to Leroy Mitchell aka Whistleman for allowing me to share my journey. We talked about the wins, the setbacks, the lessons, and everything in between. If you’ve supported me in any way over these last five years, thank you. Your encouragement has helped shape this journey more than you know. The full interview is now available on YouTube. Search for Leroy Whistleman or the Only Good Vibes News Network (Positive News NOLA) and give it a watch. The show highlights inspiring stories from our community and conversations centered on positivity and impact.

The story is still being written.
Growing up, she wasn’t just another artist to me. She was part of my childhood, part of my inspiration, and part of the soundtrack to so many moments in my life. My very first VHS tape was Cinderella. To this day, it’s still my favorite movie. Moesha became my comfort show, and her music found me on the days I needed it most. There’s a reason she’s called the Vocal Bible. Her influence reaches far beyond music. Brandy helped redefine what was possible for Black women in entertainment. She showed an entire generation that you could sing, act, lead, and carry yourself with grace while opening doors for everyone coming behind you. She didn’t just build a career. She became the blueprint.

Watching Brandy return home to receive a key to the city of McComb wasn’t just an award ceremony. It was a hometown celebrating one of its greatest daughters. It was a reminder that no matter how far your journey takes you, there’s something powerful about being honored where your story first began. I’m incredibly grateful to the McComb Main Street Association for trusting me to preserve such a meaningful evening. Thank you for allowing me to tell this story.

It was one of those full circle moments that reminds you why you fell in love with photography in the first place.
Some weekends remind you exactly why you fell in love with what you do. Essence Festival Weekend was one of those moments. Every assignment was a reminder of how far I’ve come and how much farther I can go.

Huge thank you to Solomon Group for trusting me to document such an unforgettable weekend. From the Convention Center to the Superdome, every space was filled with culture, purpose, and excellence. Watching Brandy and Monica share the stage was unforgettable, and photographing my first Maafa alongside the Ashe Cultural Arts Center was an honor. Congratulations to the Gumbo Coalition honorees, and thank you to Marc Morial and the entire National Urban League team. DJ Envy’s Car Show was pure nostalgia, while Mayor Helena Moreno continued making New Orleans shine. The surprise duet between Irma Thomas and Tonya Boyd Cannon during essence fest welcome party/ladies night gave everyone chills. My city. My culture. My purpose. What a weekend.

Pride in New Orleans has always been about more than a parade. It reflects the city’s commitment to celebrating the people, stories, and communities that make New Orleans what it is. It is a time to recognize resilience, honor progress, and reaffirm that every resident deserves dignity, respect, and the opportunity to live authentically. Seeing Mayor Moreno engage with residents, celebrate alongside the community, and help mark this occasion as the city’s first Pride Month under her administration was meaningful. As a photographer, I don’t just chase great images, I chase moments that tell the story of who we are. Moments like these remind us that a city is defined not only by its landmarks, but by the people who fill its streets, share their stories, and show up for one another. Here’s to a city that continues to grow, evolve, and make room for everyone. New Orleans, keep leading with love.
Looking like I belong because I do...
KickNBack is about community.

It’s kids getting excited about a new pair of sneakers, parents getting a little breathing room, and neighbors showing up for one another. Dom and I know not every family can do it all on their own, and truthfully… they shouldn’t have to. It takes a village. So if we can help take one thing off a parent’s plate, put a smile on a kid’s face, and turn a giveaway into a community celebration, we’re doing exactly what we set out to do. Good people. Good vibes. Great community.

Every sole deserves support.

At Queens Night, she didn’t just perform… she commanded. Dawn Richard stepped on that stage at Joy Theater like she was carrying every version of herself with her… past, present, and what’s still becoming. New Orleans roots, global sound… artistry in its purest form. She indie… but she moves like legacy.
KickNBack is running it back in 2026… in partnership with

Last year, over 200 kids across Algiers and the Greater New Orleans area received sneakers and school essentials but more than that, they felt supported, prepared, and seen. Because confidence doesn’t start on the first day of school it starts in how a child walks into it.

This year, we’re moving with more intention building something that goes beyond a single day and creates real impact where it matters most. We’re calling on partners, businesses, and brands who understand that showing up for the next generation is bigger than a moment it’s a responsibility.

Rooted in Algiers… this is for the ones coming up next. The believers. The leaders. The visionaries. The dreamers…
