“Documentation can happen through anything: a piece of paper, a photograph, a stone anything can document. And this multitasking aspect, this process of gathering all these things together, I see as evidence, as proof. So whether I take a photograph, collect a shell casing from the ground, or obtain material produced by others, it all documents something.
In short, anything can serve as testimony.”
Andy Rocchelli, Via Emilia Doc Fest, 2012

Today, May 24, 2026, marks twelve years since our brother and CESURA co-founder, Andy Rocchelli, was killed. Andy carried a strong sense of integrity and an uncompromising commitment to justice. He approached photography with instinct, intensity, and total dedication, always placing himself fully inside the reality he was documenting. Andy also possessed a unique ability to see meaning and possibility where others saw very little, transforming small details into something powerful and lasting. Twelve years later, his vision and the values he defended still remain deeply embedded in the identity of our collective.

Andy Rocchelli worked as a photojournalist for eight years, documenting Eastern Europe, the Arab Spring in Libya and Tunisia, and human rights violations in Kyrgyzstan and Ingushetia. In Italy, he focused on the phenomenon of velinism and the relationship between migrants and organized crime.
At the time of his death, near the city of Sloviansk in Ukraine on May 24, 2014, he was documenting the conditions of civilians trapped in the middle of the Donbass conflict.

In the aftermath of Brexit, Alex Zoboli travelled to the UK to document a country grappling with political division and social uncertainty. What began as a response to Brexit gradually opened into a broader look at everyday life across different communities, where conversations often circled around a shared sense of tiredness rather than firm political positions.

Through portraits, landscapes, and everyday moments, the project explores a country in transition, where the promises of the past intertwine with the uncertainties of the present.
Alex Zoboli photographed cities and towns marked by crisis, communities sustained by mutual solidarity, and places that continue to shine even when the light seems to be missing.

Shine On is a way of saying: don’t fade out. Don’t disappear. Keep your light on — and keep it alive for others, too.
