She pulled over. In the rain. On a busy motorway. Heart racing. Hands shaking. Still on the phone to the emergency services. And she walked back towards this woman.Then she saw a knife.
The police told her to get back in the car. The woman kept moving towards live traffic. My wife was crying, begging the call handler to hurry, begging the woman to stop, begging for the motorway to be closed before someone died.
She drove alongside her with the window down, talking to her, trying to keep her calm, trying to keep her alive.
Another man in a high-vis van stopped too. One stranger helping another stranger. Humanity at its rawest.
She’s home now. Safe. Exhausted. Still shaking.
