Hana Nadira and Pablo López Sánchez-Matas present the story of a woman learning to live in a body that no longer feels like her own.

An original theatre work written by Nadira, ‘Bird Eats Bread’ follows its protagonist through the liminal interiors of hospital rooms and imagined spaces as she remakes herself – asking how we carry out the delicate work of repair.

A rare cinematic treat on the big screen!
We’re opening 2026 with a landmark of Polish cinema — Andrzej Wajda’s Man of Marble (1976) — presented as part of the Borscht Film Club at the CCA in Glasgow.

📅 Friday 16 January
🕕 6:00 p.m. (doors 5:45 p.m.)
📍 CCA, 350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow

Seeing Man of Marble in a cinema is something special: a bold, fearless film that still hits with full force nearly 50 years after its release. Wajda’s incisive critique of propaganda, political myth‑making and the rewriting of history feels as urgent today as it did in the 1970s.

Through the determined gaze of young filmmaker Agnieszka (a striking debut by Krystyna Janda), the film uncovers the rise and erasure of labour hero Mateusz Birkut — portrayed with unforgettable depth by Jerzy Radziwiłowicz. Their performances, alongside an exceptional supporting cast, give the film its emotional and political power.

Recently ranked among the “13 greatest Polish films of all time” in a nationwide poll by the Museum of Cinematography in Łódź, Man of Marble remains a cornerstone of Poland’s cinematic heritage.

This screening includes a recorded introduction by film scholar Dr Bolesław Racięski from the University of Warsaw, offering insight into the film’s context, reception and lasting impact. A fitting way to begin the newly declared in Poland Year of Andrzej Wajda (2026).

🎟 Tickets: £10 / £8 / £6
