This set was extra special β as you can see, sheβs a little shaky, but this was my first set I did post-stroke, fresh home from my long hospitalization. I had an Ischemic Stroke and minor brain bleed on December 18th, 2024 at just 24 yrs old.
Itβs the small things stroke robs you of. Your steady hands, your walk, your energy, your focus. Itβs the rigid medication schedule, the medical fatigue, the PTSD from the traumatic event itself. Itβs the ripple effect it has on your loved ones, your income, your social life, your confidence.
FUN FACT: Once you endure brain damage, your brain never fully recovers those lost cells β but it can rewire itself. It builds new pathways. Thatβs why stroke survivors need months of rest, grace, and patience.
Waking up with a new brain and no user manual is terrifying and humbling to say the least. Iβm so proud of my community and the way we show up everyday. Because non survivors think the stroke itself, hooked up to all the cords and being in ICU is the worst partβ¦itβs actually waking up every day after in this new life, and facing those difficulties head on. Despite its horror, I practice gratitude with how lucky my outcome was. I fully understand I could have had my ability to walk, talk and think completely robbed of me. Though, a lot of my recovery was hard-work for the first 6 months. Everyday doing my exercises. Following my medical regimen. Eating healthy. Managing stress. Going to my appointments. Finding community of support. Re-learning myself.
Some days I get so upset this year flew by and was absolutely consumed by this. I ended 2024 with a stroke and started 2025 with this new life. Truly consider it a privilege if your focus is on things of joy, or of choice, not dark topics like health problems. It truly affected every part of my life, it is my life. This wonβt be a stroke activist page but have to talk about it occasionally - for those who are unable to. β€οΈβπ©Ή
