What do you spend the most time on?
I have 3 styles: detailed semi realistic black and white for paintings, semi detailed black and white for comic pages, and low detail for illustration. This has the comic pages eyes lol.
Do you have more than one art style too?
Nel mio caso la Caterina Pubblica ha prevalso sulla Caterina che starebbe chiusa in casa a disegnare… ma non sono stata con le mani in mano. Ho disegnato per molti eventi, workshop e webinar, e come sapete anche quando non sto disegnando faccio comunque cose legate al mondo artistico, come con la Lucca Manga School o nell’editoria! 💪

It’s just about that time where we look back and take stock of the past year… and for artists, to do an Art vs artist!
In my case, the public me has won over the side of me that would rather lock the door and stay home, drawing all day… but that doesn’t mean I haven’t done anything. I drew for many events, workshops, webinars, and as usual when I’m not drawing I’m still working in the art world, like with my school or for books I’m publishing in Italy.

I changed my mind so many times with this one, but here it is now.
I prefer the short hair, initially I started drawing thinking I would do a white girl but then while coloring I changed my mind and tried dark skin and fell in love with the look. But when I draw black girls I like to draw afro hair on them, it’s really fun to draw and it poses unique challenges and possibilities since I don’t tackle dark skinned subjects often.
In the end though the most challenging part were the hands, because black people have lighter palms, but they looked too realistic and out of place in my style. Hopefully this midway point looks right artistically without being too incorrect, even if it’s not perfect.
I am very much in love with all human bodies even though I clearly have a type that I fall into when I draw. Since I use myself as reference often, I tend to draw very pale people with broad hips a lot (lol)
I want to broaden my horizons though, and draw more kinds of people, even if trying new things can lead to awkward results at first. I still want to show to artists that it’s okay to try different things and that everyone has awkward results, it’s not a reason not to try anyways.
Also just now I realize I missed an opportunity to draw waist beads on her, what a waste.
