Landed one of our biggest tarpon of the season yesterday, can you guess the weight?

It was one of those Chamber of Commerce type days. Stunning weather, crystal clear water and fish cooperating.

We caught some quality fish knocking off clients PB tarpon and permit, it was one of those days you could call your shots, pull up to where your theories on fish should be and sure enough there they were. These fish are getting on their routine pattern and the last couple weeks of season should be fantastic.
More than halfway through the 2026 tarpon season and here’s a short recap. We have had a great stretch of weather without any cancellations, fishing everyday since May 1.

Overall our numbers are about average, but the ā€œfunā€ part of tarpon fishing is the challenge of figuring out their patterns. With that said, some has stayed the same over previous years but there have also been days they put us on a wild goose chase going offshore longer than expected to spawn on the moon cycles. It makes everyday a hunt and no two days the same. The grind is worth it and we’ve had some epic bites, memorable moments and close calls that keep us coming back from more. There’s few addictions in life like tarpon season and I am both grateful and thankful to all the clients that share this special time of year with us. Thanks to my mate for putting together this video, look for part 2 as we finish our season.
Sometimes it takes a Permit (or 2) to make me target anything other than Tarpon this time of year. But man….are they fun!!!!!
There’s nothing better than putting a client on their first tarpon, and when it’s a kid it’s that much more special.

Proud of Walker for his patience, determination and trusting in the process. Our gameplan worked and when his opportunity came, he was dialed in and did everything right to be rewarded with his first tarpon!! It was an impressive battle start to finish. I’m sure he will be adding many more in his future.
Tarpon Season in a nut shell.

You basically get zero sleep running 12 hours on the water 7 days a week, your brain works overtime looking at tides, wind, water temps, moon cycles, barometers, etc. some days you look like a hero with double digit numbers, the next you’re beating your head in looking for a bite, or fish that ā€œdisappearedā€ to spawn. There’s long hours, hot days, no rest, sunburns, heat exhaustion and aching body part all to chase a fish you can’t even bring home.

And somehow, it is the MOST EXCITING THING IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not going to lie, we had to grind for tarpon bites before the full moon while the massive migration went offshore to spawn. But persistence pays off and we were granted some good bites with great people. Milo the pup was our lucky charm!!!!!! Great times with my people making memories!
There’s a million reasons why I LOVE my career as a full time fishing guide. But one stands out on the top, and it’s my clients. The bond you build with someone after hours together on a boat fulfilling their fishing goals is special.

Clients are technically strangers when we meet for the first time at the dock, my goal is to turn them into friends by the time we get back to the marina. When someone gets off my boat, and can’t wait to rebook I know I’ve done my job. Repeat clients are a huge part of my business and I am blessed with some amazing ones!!!!!

Ironic story about one of my favorite regulars Eric in this photo is when he first called and booked a trip I agreed to pick him up at his place in Tierra Verde, when he gave me the address I was shocked..it was the EXACT same place I was born and raised in. Still gives me goosebumps everytime I pick him up at the dock I learned how to fish from when I was 2 years old. Small world turned into great friends!!

Thank you to each and everyone of you whom I’ve fished with in the past, and to those in the future whom I haven’t met let as I am looking forward to turning your next trip into a regular occasion.
You never know what you’ll find in the middle of the Gulf. Caught this baby sailfish off the side of the boat while swordfishing. Hope to see him again in a few years during a tournament.
Today was literally one for the record books — and I’m still on cloud 9!!!

Real talk — this season has been above average, but inconsistent. We’ve had some highs and some real grinders. But like my buddy always says, ā€œYou’re only one fish away from being a legend.ā€

Well… today was that fish. 😮

My clients booked their trip over a year ago with one goal: land a tarpon they’d never forget. Today did NOT disappoint.

Storms had us idling at sunrise, dodging lightning while I laid out the gameplan. Once the skies split open, we made a move… and within minutes we were tight on one of the biggest tarpon I’ve ever seen in my life. 🤯

Less than 3 minutes setup in the water, one of the rods doubles over and we verified we were in the right place at the right time. Little did we know what was going to happen next.

After leaving a hole in the water with every jump this fish proceeded to swim where she wanted to. After a long battle, this fish gave us everything she had and FINALLY came boatside. I apologize for the language, but had to show footage of our excitement as we finally got a face grab and measurement on this truly amazing creature!!!!

The craziest thing about this fish, is that I knew it was going to be over the 200lb mark, but didn’t realize exactly how big she was until we length and girthed her 🤯🤯🤯

81ā€L x 49ā€G ā‰ˆ 244.2lbs 😱🤯😮

None of us knew exactly how special this fish was until we calculated her and realized it’s a potential state record!!!!!

To be completely transparent and honest, I don’t have it in me to kill a tarpon of this size just to have my name in a record book and honestly I would have self disqualified the fish based on anglers switching….. but this isn’t about owning a record or not. This is about the smiles and memories of the clients on my boat. Let me end it with the fact that no one, including myself and my mate will ever forget that fish for as long as we live!!
It’s hard to complain about working 7 days a week when your office looks like this.

The meatballs of tarpon are right on schedule pouring into Tampa Bay for the May full moon. It’s impossible to count the exact amount of fish we see out here everyday but it’s in the thousands right now.
