There are many reasons why I practice catch & release on my skiff. My main goal is to leave the water better than what I found it. I could sit here and encourage this all day long, but I’m not ignorant to the fact that change cannot happen overnight. I do want to make it clear that I have never once said it’s wrong to keep fish, but it can absolutely be overdone and that’s what I have a problem with. In my opinion, the measure of what makes somebody a great angler or a Captain is not the amount of fish you can put on a kill board or fill the cooler with, but the way you are a steward for the waters you fish and the way in which you respect the resource.

You always hear how good it used to be ‘back in the day.’ Well, I say we flip that script. Imagine how incredible it would be for the future generation of anglers to experience fishing that have us saying “Damn, I wish it was this good when I was growing up”

That’s the goal, but that starts with stewardship, conservation, taking care of the resource, and being grateful for the blessing that is the beautiful waters we get to experience! Sometimes it’s all about a shift in perspective. I fully expect people to have differing opinions, that’s okay, drop em down in the comments. Differing opinions make the world go round, I’ll never turn down constructive dialogue. Let’s talk about it. But on my skiff, we’re keeping it sustainable, one release at a time! 🤙🏻
