What began as a shared commitment to better menopause care has become a national movement.
Across Canada, our members are advancing education, shaping clinical practice, and bringing evidence-based care to women at every stage of midlife.
This year, we gathered in Montreal, expanded into our Masterclass, and strengthened national collaborations—including work with the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada on the Menopause Hub and clinical tools, and the development of accessible MHT and equivalency tables to support care across the country.
Family physicians, specialists, pharmacists, and allied experts—working together with a shared purpose.
We are proud of what we’ve built. And even more excited for what lies ahead.
Millions of women spend over one-third of their lives in perimenopause and menopause, yet education, research, and access to care remain limited.
At the Canadian Menopause Society, we are committed to advancing evidence-based care, supporting healthcare professionals, and advocating for better resources so that every woman in Canada can receive the care she deserves — at every stage of life.

For more than 20 years, the boxed warning created fear and confusion about hormone therapy. Many women avoided treatment that could have improved their symptoms, sleep, health, and quality of life.
This decision reflects updated science and a more accurate understanding of safety - especially for women who start hormone therapy under age 60 or within 10 years of menopause. Modern evidence shows that this is the group most likely to benefit.
It is also important to understand that not all hormone therapies are the same.
There are two different categories, and they have different safety considerations:
1. Systemic hormone therapy • Treats whole-body symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats • Absorbed throughout the body • Requires a full medical assessment • Benefits and risks depend on timing, age, health history, and formulation
2. Local (vaginal) estrogen • Used directly in the vagina • Very low absorption into the body • Safe for most women • Helps with comfort, dryness, bladder symptoms, and preventing recurrent UTIs
These two therapies should not be evaluated the same way. Local vaginal estrogen does not carry the same risks as systemic estrogen and should never have been grouped under the same boxed warning. Its removal is a long-overdue correction that supports better care.
While this is a positive shift, thoughtful, evidence-informed use is still essential. Hormone therapy should always be individualized and guided by a knowledgeable clinician - avoiding the pendulum swinging too far in either direction.
The Canadian Menopause Society celebrates this milestone and hopes Canada will update its own labelling soon.
