I’m not the smartest in the room.
Not the fastest learner.
Not the most confident either.

What I did have was this quiet decision:
I won’t stop just because it’s hard.

Most days looked ordinary.
Slow progress. Small wins. Rejections. Self-doubt.
No applause. No guarantees.

But consistency compounds.
Showing up when motivation disappears builds something talent alone can’t.

If you’re still trying - you’re already ahead.
Not because you’re gifted.
But because you didn’t quit.

Save this for the days you feel β€œbehind.”
You’re not behind - you’re building.

Today my bank did a full financial consultation.

They noticed I had $9 in my chequing account and politely asked if they should go ahead and deduct the $14 monthly fee… or let me keep my $9 for emotional support.

I appreciate the concern. Truly.

If you know, you know 😌

The kind of people who don’t need reminders to be decent.

Who hold doors without making a show of it.
Who listen more than they speak.
Who respect personal space, time, and boundaries.

People with quiet morals.
Manners without entitlement.
Kindness without conditions.

They move through life gently -
not trying to dominate rooms,
not making everything about themselves,
not keeping score when they help.

This isn’t about being loud or perfect.
It’s about being considerate when no one is watching.

That’s the Canada I respect.
That’s the Canada I believe is built on people like this. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

It’s been 6 years, and I can genuinely say - I’ve grown here.

The surrounding matters.
Fewer people, but quality people.
People who want to see you grow, not compete with you or pull you down.

I value the job culture and work–life balance here - something I personally didn’t experience back home.

The truth is, you can’t restart life from the point you left. Switching countries isn’t a hobby. Even if family supports you, rebuilding your life is still on you.

Reverse culture shock is real.
Old friends have moved on.
Family has learned to live without you.
Even familiar streets change so much that they barely recognize you.

What shocks you most is cost of living.
Things feel far more expensive back home now, without the same growth in income - especially when you remember how affordable everything once felt.

Here, there’s independence.
You earn, you spend mindfully, and no one interferes.
Back home, especially in middle-class families, even personal choices are often judged as β€œwasteful.”

So for me -
One will always be my motherland.
The other is my workland.

And right now, my life is built here.
How about you?

I decided to be disciplined.

Rule:

➑️ Run 20 minutes every day
➑️ Miss a day? Add 20 minutes to the next day

Sounded simple.
Felt motivational.
Very Instagram-worthy.

Fast forward…
❄️ Snow outside
πŸ“… Missed a few days
⏱️ Tomorrow’s run: 4 months

At this point, I’m not training for fitness.
I’m training for character development.

Canada doesn’t forgive.
Math definitely doesn’t forgive.

If your car insurance renewal shocked you this year, you’re not alone.
Premiums jumped across Canada - and here’s why πŸ‘‡

1️⃣ Auto theft crisis
Car theft claims crossed $1 billion in a single year. More theft = higher risk = higher premiums for everyone.

2️⃣ Repairs cost way more now
New cars have ADAS, sensors, cameras.
Repairing them costs ~23% more than older vehicles.

3️⃣ Extreme weather is expensive
Floods, storms, wildfires.
Weather-related insurance claims hit $8.5 billion in 2024 - a record.

4️⃣ Trade tariffs on parts
New 25% U.S. tariffs on steel & aluminum raised auto-part costs, which insurers pass on to drivers.

5️⃣ More traffic, more accidents
Return-to-office + construction = congestion.
More collisions mean more claims.

πŸ‘‰ Bottom line: it’s not just your driving - it’s the system.

βœ… What you can do to reduce the impact

β€’ Shop around before renewal
β€’ Increase your deductible (if you can afford it)
β€’ Ask for usage-based or safe-driver discounts
β€’ Install anti-theft devices
β€’ Bundle home + auto insurance

Save this - your next renewal email won’t feel as confusing.

Like… Toronto is YYZ, Montreal is YUL, Ottawa is YOW. None of them match the city names! πŸ€”

Here’s the storyπŸ‘‡

Back in the 1930s, Canada used two-letter codes for radio and weather stations. When airports started getting three-letter IATA codes, Canada just added a β€œY” in front, which literally meant β€œYes, there’s a radio station here.”

β€’ YYZ - Toronto - from old Malton / railway /telegraph code YZ

β€’ YUL - MontrΓ©al - from the Kirkland radio /beacon code UL

β€’ YOW - Ottawa - from old telegraph / aviation code OW

β€’ YVR - Vancouver - Y + local identifier for Vancouver / radio

β€’ YYC - Calgary - Y + local identifier derived from Calgary / regional code

β€’ YEG - Edmonton - Y + Edmonton’s government / airfield identifier EG

β€’ YWG - Winnipeg - Y + WG (winnipeg government / radio code)

β€’ YHZ - Halifax - from local station / beacon letters HZ

β€’ YQT - Thunder Bay - from old telegraph / field code QT

β€’ YYJ - Victoria (Inner Harbour) - based on older station code YJ (James Bay area)

β€’ YXE - Saskatoon - from historic radio / telegraph letters XE

β€’ YQR - Regina - from earlier radio code QR

β€’ YQB - QuΓ©bec City - from local beacon / telegraph QB

β€’ YAM - Sault Ste. Marie - old station code AM

β€’ YZF - Yellowknife - from local field code ZF

β€’ YXS - Prince George - from older station code XS

So next time you see YYZ or YUL, just remember,
the β€œY” means Yes, there’s a radio station here! πŸ“‘βœˆοΈπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

1. Get Outside, Even When It’s Cold

A 10-minute walk in daylight can do more for your mood than hours under a blanket. Don’t wait for motivation, movement creates it.

2. Wake Up and Get Ready Even If You’re Staying Home

It’s easy to stay in pajamas all day, but changing clothes and starting your day properly gives your mind structure and energy. Routine beats laziness.

3. Let the Sun In

Open your blinds early. Natural light helps regulate your mood and sleep, especially when sunsets hit before 5 PM.

4. Join a Gym or Indoor Activity

Winter blues hit harder when you stop moving. Sign up for a gym, dance class, or even indoor badminton, anything that keeps you active.

5. Eat Warm and Nutritious Meals

Hot soups, homemade curries, and herbal teas aren’t just comfort. They keep your energy up and immune system strong through long, dark months.

6. Stay Social

Host small dinners, visit friends, or join local meetups. Isolation is the fastest way to feel lonely in winter.

7. Try a New Hobby Indoors

Painting, reading, journaling, or learning a skill online. Winter is the best time to build something quietly.

8. Decorate Your Space

Warm lighting, cozy blankets, and some plants make a huge difference. Your home should feel like comfort, not confinement.

9. Plan Short Trips

Even a weekend getaway to a nearby town or ski spot breaks the monotony. You need something to look forward to.

10. Accept Winter, Don’t Fight It

The more you complain about it, the longer it feels. The day you start seeing the beauty in snow is the day you stop dreading it.
