Not sure if this is controversial, but we feel like: the difference and changes that happen between 1-2y old feels debatably even more prominent than 0-1. We started 2025 with this baby! She made her needs known but only was just learning how to crawl, and didn’t have any words. Just this cute little thing soaking it all in. Now we have this little person! She’s funny - like genuinely has an incredible sense of humour. She’s much more cautious and safety oriented than we are - by far. But she’s still super wacky and silly, which is much more on brand for us. And she’s SO extremely empathetic - to the point that she can’t witness any conflict or tension of any sorts without getting very upset and feeling big big feels (like genuinely none. Yesterday she was watching a show where the kid was uncomfortable because he was itchy and she lost her mind crying yelling itchy itchy pointing to the kid on the tv asking if we could help him.) She’s picking up more words every day, and while her sentences are short and sweet, she typically uses her language to make jokes and try to get us to laugh, and it works every time.
Can’t wait to see where age 2-3y takes us. We already love this little kid so so so much that it’s hard to picture we can love her anymore — and yet historically, we know that we will. ♥️
Wild how much change can happen in a year! My mom started this tradition we call the “Christmas ribbon” where every year we take a family photo to print out and attach to this long red bow we hang in our dining room for the holidays. We haven’t sewn our own ribbon yet - partly due to the fact that we are not finished building the dining room it would hang in… but that is no excuse to miss taking our yearly photo we will one day hang up for our kids to show their partners, and maybe even their own children- just like my mom does. Last year we were living in our bus, this year we’re living in our back bedrooms and cooking off a propane camp stove next to our toilet, while we push our building and design skills beyond what we thought possible, and turn our main space into our dream home. So we thought this year the photo had to be taken on what we have lovingly named our Christmas scaffolding to summarize this chapter. It’s always fun to have some kind of adventure!
Hope you all were able to have some nice moments these holidays - and if you weren’t, it’s ok not to be ok too, the storm will pass. Wishing you all a healthy healthy heallltttthhhhyyy new year (our daughter’s first year in daycare makes us really appreciate moments of feeling healthy!) ♥️
YAY! We finished our renovations by Christmas like we planned! We swear, the green ceiling and scaffolding are supposed to be there…
How is renovating your house yourselves, while living in it, with a toddler? Honestly, fun! Is it stressful? Of course! Is it hard? Definitely! Do we want it to be over? YES! BUT we’re so happy we’re doing it ourselves! It makes us feel so proud of the space - the home- we’re building, by doing it ourselves. Listen we’re no expert builders. We’re totally self taught! But it’s like all the extra blood sweat and tears make it feel more beautiful and worth it in the end somehow (eventhough there is inevitably more mistakes made in the process).
Happy to be building the life we want for ourselves, one scribbled on subfloor at a time.
Here we go with renos again: but this time way bigger, and we are living in them with a toddler. We’re doing as much of the work as we can ourselves while she’s away at daycare during the week, and then living in the back bedrooms of our house until this is all done. Yes we have a camping stove set up next to our toilet — it’s very glamorous. But we also lived and travelled in a 90sqft school bus for a year with this baby, so honestly still having our own bedrooms and flush toilets does feel like a step up in some ways! We waited to share the news of this HUGE project that we’ve been working on behind the scenes for the last 6 months until everything was officially stamped off and approved by our local inspectors. But it’s happening! The drawings are approved and we got the green light to move forward with the project, so 24h after that approval we started swinging hammers! Can’t wait for our vision to come to life - making this tired 60s bungalow into the Midcentury home of our dreams. Vaulted ceilings and open concept main space, here we come!!

Wow. How has this time come so quickly — and we were so privileged to have our time together be this long!! After 20 months of being with us 24/7: trying to walk in Sedona, saying your first words in the Arizona desert, learning to crawl in Yosemite, learning to sit up next to the ocean in BC, and then just being our little potato on a drive across all of Canada, and a little bean back in our home. We can’t believe you’re off on your own adventures without us now! We’ve always known that you’re your own person - but to be no longer looking to us for guidance in every moment and having to start advocating for yourself to others and making your own opinions known — Not to mention not seeing you for every second of every day!!! Wow. This is a big step.
We’re so proud of you and also so nervous because we just want only good things to come your way, but know it’s so much harder to protect you when you’re out from under our tight wing. But we believe in you, with our whole hearts. You are so loved and and will always be thinking of you, every second of every day. Even when we’re no longer together.
WHAT AN EMOTIONAL DAY. Side note— didn’t sleep a wink last night. Being worried for your child is so much more stressful than being worried for yourself.
Happy first day of “school” little adventurer. ♥️
Today is World IVF day!
We always knew we wanted kids. After two long and hard years working with a horrible and then a great fertility clinic, we finally got pregnant from our first round of IVF. We were initially so scared from the years of heart breaking negatives, poking and prodding, systemic homophobia, with our hope slowly fading, that when we found out we were just so skeptical. So worried it wouldn’t stick. It took us months to get truly excited. I remember the day we finally were brave enough to be vulnerable and post about the pregnancy on instagram… it was this sigh of relief. Like we finally made it to a stage where we could start letting go of the dark worries and start holding onto all this hope again. Well, the pregnancy obviously worked out. We had the most amazing little adventure buddy, and got to travel around North America with her for her first year of life, just like we always dreamed we would one day.
So grateful for science. We may not be a nuclear family who had kids “the ole fashioned way”, but my goodness does that make us feel so much more grateful and fortunate to be alive, together, and in love. So here’s to IVF, and here’s to all the people going through it - no matter the outcome. Always here to chat, answer Qs, and hold hope for you if you need it. ♥️
18months of Ren! I can’t believe it’s already been a year and a half with this little adventurer, and we were able to travel like we dreamed of for most of it! Wanted to take a moment to celebrate this milestone by throwing some highlights of this last 1.5y into a video for us to look back on. She was such a little bean when we started all of this so wild to see her becoming this walking little cautious but curious goofball. We’re already dreaming up our next big adventures, but aren’t hitting the road quite yet. We’re enjoying encouraging her to grow roots in one spot and having connections to this place and these people her help her grow in new ways that travelling couldn’t. But don’t you worry… we aren’t ones to sit still for too long. 😉 ♥️
Nap time coffee breaks are the main way we stayed alive during 11m of travelling with a baby. Our little one slept in the back while we got to just take a minute to reset, refuel, and reconnect as a couple. We were just gifted the electric kettle and this thing would have made our nap time coffee breaks SO much better. It’s so fast, uses WAY less power than a regular kettle, and you just make your coffee, tea, whatever, directly in the kettle. It has a French press lid that comes with it, and even a food reheating and popcorn making setting!! (Haven’t tested that out yet, but definitely is next on the list)
Thanks so much for sending us this sweet product, we’re so excited to have it in our bus! ♥️
Spending our first year as parents on the road full time travelling was such a gift. Having this incredibly little one be ours is such an incredible privilege that it’s hard to put into words really. Watching her grow and become her own in all these unique environments has been an experience that will shape our family for years and years to come. So thankful for how lucky we are to have her as our daughter, and love being able to have all of you to share our adventures with. ♥️
