Il linguaggio è non solo comunicazione, ma anche base e forma del pensiero logico, filosofico, scientifico.
Il linguaggio è nato attraverso il suono, ma gli esseri umani, ad un certo punto della loro storia, hanno compiuto un passo fondamentale: hanno iniziato a inventare, e a tracciare, dei segni. Hanno cioè dato vita a vere e proprie “astrazioni”, forme che non riproducevano la realtà ma che servivano a qualcos’altro. Hanno inventato la scrittura, non solo per comunicare tra loro e descrivere il reale, ma anche per decifrare l’universo, la natura.
La scrittura infatti non include solo lettere, grafemi (latini, cirillici, greci, cinesi, arabi, indiani…), ma anche, ad esempio simboli matematici, scientifici, musicali.
Osservare lettere immaginarie provoca uno spaesamento in chi osserva, lo stesso che proviamo ascoltando una lingua sconosciuta o davanti a lettere straniere. Possiamo godere della bellezza della scrittura proprio quando, paradossalmente, non ne capiamo il significato. E questo è la base della curiosità per l’altro, sentimento senza il quale, secondo me, l’umanità si estinguerebbe domani.
Per me ragionare sul futuro dell’umanità è questo: non dimenticarsi del linguaggio, di ciò che ci connette davvero in quanto esseri umani.
