This year’s theme was Transforming the Critical Minerals Value Chain. More than 250 leaders from such sectors as mining, mineral processing, automotive, defence, clean energy, and government explored such topics as building a critical minerals value chain, Indigenous participation in critical minerals, and Canada’s opportunity in global EV transformation.
At Cambrian, we support this transition through applied research and strong partnerships. Our Centre for Smart Mining works with companies to advance battery electric mining equipment and new technologies that can be used at full scale.
Together, this work helps companies test ideas, reduce risk, and move innovation into real use. It also helps ensure that Canada is not just supplying critical minerals, but leading in how they are used across the full electric vehicle supply chain, and Cambrian is a key part of that process.

Cambrian College has wrapped up its High School Stock Market Challenge. During the six-week challenge, approximately 350 Sudbury high school students were given a portfolio of $100,000 and were tasked with growing their investment.
It was a practical way for students to learn about financial literacy, investing, and money management. Taking the top prize was Dane Nielsen of Lasalle Secondary School, who earned returns of more than 20 percent. Placing second was Jack O’Connell of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, while Lasalle’s Grayson Hingst placed third. All three won a $500 scholarship to attend Cambrian College. Congratulations! Consider it our investment in your future 🎓

As part of this year’s Pow Wow, “Water is Life: Honouring our Water Walkers,” our students continued the tradition of giving back through community fundraising initiatives.
Today, we’re proud to support the Junction Creek Stewardship Committee for their ongoing work protecting, maintaining, and revitalizing the local watershed in the N’Swakamok (where the three roads meet), area.
Their dedication to caring for our waterways reflects the teachings behind this year’s theme, and we recognize the important responsibility we all share in protecting and caring for the waters that sustain our communities and future generations.

Six students and faculty member Johanna Westby spent 150 hours creating two murals for Lasalle Secondary School. The murals depict monarch butterflies (matching Lasalle’s school colours) breaking through glass and growing as they make their way across the panels 🦋
It symbolizes growth, resilience and potential as students from grades 7 to 12 move from one phase of their lives to the next, finding their way as they grow in life 🪽
