Shinjuku; after dusk 🌅

The most energetic, lively, chaotic and touristy part of Tokyo. Despite people telling you to avoid this area, it’s still worth coming to at least once. Although I stayed here my first time in Japan years ago and wanted to avoid this area as much as possible this time around, it was worth coming to just for the nostalgia and that chaotic Tokyo energy that’s oddly satisfying.

Hate it or love it, imo Shinjuku embodies what most people think of when you think of Tokyo 🇯🇵

On-the-go with ⚡️

Meet the 172 camera sling bag, easily one of the most stylish accessories I’ve ever owned. Crafted with quality Italian leather and a sleek, elegant style with the everyday photographer in mind, it features a crossbody strap, a carry handle, and enough room for a compact camera and a lens. There’s also additional slots and pockets for other small accessories like a small tablet, batteries, SD cards, etc. I’ll also add that from personal use thus far, it’s a very sturdy and durable bag, and I can only imagine that the rest of their products can also hold up fairly well 💪

also has a wide variety of other bags such as backpacks, briefcases, duffle bags, totes, and so on. All their products are crafted with quality leather, and if you’re at all interested in a quality bag, check them out at the link in my bio! ✌️

Tokyo nights at Shibuya Sky ✨🌃

One of the most touristy things you could possibly do in Tokyo is visit Shibuya Sky…and it would be absolutely worth your time. This is the highest viewpoint in Tokyo and overlooks the entire city. I couldn’t snag the sunset tickets but nighttime or really anytime during the day is equally as worth it. But at night is when the light show happens and continues till closing, so I’d highly recommend this if you can’t make it during sunset!

Admittedly, I also don’t really shoot at night often and despite having done photography for so long, I have never really nailed my own aesthetic when it comes to night photos. But if I’ve learned anything, having a mist filter is key for that extra sauce 🤌🏻

The hidden village of Shirakawa-go 🛖

Shirakawa is one of the most touristy places in Japan, but also one of the most beautiful and completely worth the visit. There’s always a reason why places like this are touristy, and it’s still worth coming to. It’s also close enough to Toyama and even Nagoya that you can make a quick day trip out of it‼️

Frames from an afternoon in Kamakura 🌊

Did a little day trip from Tokyo down to the seaside town of Kamakura. Walking around this beach town was such a vibe, but also probably only one of the few days this whole trip where weather wasn’t totally in our favour. Mount fuji being visible would’ve been the cherry on top 😭

Have you been to Kamakura?

It all started in 2016…

As a 23 yr old, it was just about the perfect time to jump into photography. So here’s some more context for each slide:

1) Yes that is a camera. One of my first cameras!
2) My first camera, a Nikon D5200 picked up on Black Friday 2015.
3) My first solo trip to Havana. Seeing old cars everywhere was just 👌
4) Havana again. Would love to go back one day 🙌
5) Playing a tic tac toe game with friends when Toronto hosted NBA all star 2016. One of the most iconic all star weekends ever!
6) Went to my first photowalk ever. Anyone remember smoke grenades???
7) Took a 1 year post-grad certificate program at George Brown that year. My friend suddenly whipped out pancakes (?) in the middle of someone’s presentation lol. I spy!
8) Exploring Toronto with. Good ol Brookfield shot ‼️
9) Found the hidden library within Osgoode hall
10) Cafe hopping and Toronto exploring. I really began to explore Toronto for the first time this year 🔥
11) One of my first long expo/slow shutter shots in Montreal, ft and
12) Urbex and IG was honestly peak in 2016. Went inside Habitat67 in Montreal before a security guard chased us out. The thrill of discovering places you saw on IG was honestly the most fun thing. Back when it wasn’t saturated yet.
13) One of my first port shoots ft 🫶🏻
14) Neon. IYKYK
15) Bokeh had a GRIP on IG. Again, IYKYK
16) Here’s a 1min clip of, July 2016. I think I got door tix for $10. 😂😭🙌
17) Honest Ed’s. OGs remember, or maybe I’m just old now
18) A shot from the islands
19) Drinks with friends after exams, Dec …I’m still here 🙌

So that’s my personal visual diary of what life was like in 2016. Left out a lot of things like Pokémon GO, parties with friends, clubs, etc - it was also an insaneee time for music. Fast forward to today, tbh never thought I’d stil be here after all this time. Without this hobby, I really wouldn’t be here and met sooo many of you over the years.

Whats your core memory in 2016?
