India graduated this month with her B.S. in environmental sciences with an emphasis in land and soil. She will travel to Nanjing, China to compete on the U.S. soil judging team at the fifth International Soil Judging Contest June 2-6.
“I love learning new characteristics about soils,” she said. “I’m imagining that the soils in China are going to be pretty different.”
Her individual results at the 2026 National Collegiate Soil Judging Competition opened the door to this one-of-a-kind opportunity. She traveled with Mizzou’s Soil Judging team to North Carolina for the competition in March.
India received second place as an individual, and Mizzou also received second place as a team.
“I’m obviously happy about my individual score, but I’m really happy that I was able to contribute to the group score,” she said.
The individuals who place in the top eight at the national competition are offered the opportunity to compete in the international contest, which happens every four years.
“I’ll be competing against a bunch of different countries,” India said. “The U.S. won the last one, so hopefully we’ll continue that streak.”
Join us in wishing India best of luck as she competes next week!

Growing up in a small town in Southeast Missouri, moving to Columbia was a completely new experience for the twins. But both sisters have grown and flourished through being surrounded by other ambitious students.
“I feel like there are a lot of people who come here, and they have big dreams and big goals,” Bell said. “It’s really nice to be around that same group of people.”
Bell will begin a new chapter at Mizzou’s School of Veterinary Medicine in the fall, while Beth’s future is still undecided. She either plans to move home after graduation or take on a new role in the Division of Animal Sciences. The potential for temporarily going their separate ways wasn’t originally part of the sisters’ plan, but they’re using the opportunity to stay optimistic about the future.
“I did not get into vet school, so I’ll probably reapply next year,” Beth said. “But I’m looking forward to new experiences and branching out.”
As they prepare to step into the next phase of life, they’re taking advantage of one last part of CAFNR’s signature experience.
“We’re going on a study abroad to Ireland right after graduation to gain a better understanding of agriculture in another country,” Bell said. “Specifically, one that has a rich history of focusing on ruminant production.”
Even though they’re trading CAFNR – a place that’s become home for them – for a new season in life, the Foltz sisters are grateful for everything their undergraduate experiences have given them.
“CAFNR does a good job at making a big school feel like a family,” Bell said.
Beth and Bell rose above and beyond the traditional standards of student success. Just like they excelled in this phase of life, they’re ready to do the same with anything that comes their way next.
Congratulations, Beth and Bell! We're #CAFNRproud of you!
Along with pursuing the Honors College Certificate, Kimaku served on the Alumni Association Student Board, worked as a student ambassador for the College of Health Sciences, cared for patients at MU Health Care’s University Hospital and led as vice president of Omicron Delta Kappa.
Kimaku will graduate this weekend with degrees in health science and nutrition & exercise physiology — and leave a legacy of service, engagement and support for future Tigers.
“As a freshman, it seemed like there were a billion different ways to get involved, and that’s something special that you might not get at smaller schools,” he said. “Applying to be on AASB as a freshman took courage because there were so many interviews where you really put yourself out there. Looking back on it now, I’m happy that I wasn’t afraid of failure. I had so many great mentors at Mizzou pouring into me with support, including those in the Honors College encouraging me to pursue scholarship opportunities. Now I try to be the biggest cheerleader for others.”
Charlie grew up on a farm near Ashland, Missouri, where his family raises cattle, horses, hunting dogs and quail. For him, agriculture has always been a way of life, but his experiences in FFA in high school, including competing on the soil judging team, confirmed his passion.
“I fell in love with all things soil and all things earthy,” he said. “I found a community through FFA in high school and being surrounded by farmers my whole life. It also showed me there is room for improvement. Farmers are doing important work — feeding all of us — but they’re not getting represented enough. I want to support them while also promoting best land management practices.”
When it came time to choose a college, Lewis had a team of Tigers rooting for Mizzou. His dad, Jay Lewis, BS ’95, and mom, Carla Lewis, BS Ed ’97, M Ed ’05, are alumni, as is his sister, Ginny, BHS ’22. His grandmother, Carrol Lewis, once worked in the CAFNR dean’s office.
At Mizzou, Charlie found a campus where learning happens both in and outside of the classroom.
“I loved the hands-on experiences,” he said. “Any lab where I got to be outside was my favorite.”
Beyond the classroom, he stayed involved with FFA, representing Mizzou at two national conventions. He also stepped into leadership roles as a CAFNR ambassador, a member of the Mizzou Collegiate Farm Bureau and a student representative on the CAFNR Alumni Board.
At Montana State University, Charlie will be a graduate research assistant focused on studying nitrogen fixation in the soil through dry bean and legume production.
It’s work he hopes leads to a career in research.
“I’ve been telling my friends lately that I have three main goals,” Charlie said. “To help as many people as possible — and you do that through research; to spend as much time with friends and family as possible; and to see as many places as I can.”
Congratulations, Charlie! Our thanks for all you have done for CAFNR – you make us #CAFNRproud!

“My mom had breast cancer and a friend of mine passed away from pediatric cancer when I was in high school,” she said.
That’s why Lauren, an environmental sciences major, became a fighter for Mizzou’s Fight Night for Pediatric Cancer Research. It’s a student-run organization that hosts an annual philanthropy kickboxing event to raise money for children with cancer. Out of 200 applicants, Lauren was one of just 20 students chosen to become a fighter and trained for seven weeks.
The experience that really gave Lauren the grit and determination to fight was visiting pediatric cancer patients at University Hospital.
“I got to meet Margot, who is one of our fighter families,” she said. “We sponsored them and the money we raised went directly to them for their treatment.”
After three rounds of fighting and pushing through physical and mental exhaustion during the fight night March 7 at the Hearnes Center, Lauren won her match. But for her, this journey wasn’t about winning. It was about the invaluable lessons she learned from the experience.
“I didn’t put myself through the ringer for me, I did it to raise money for the kids who didn’t get a choice to fight,” she said. “I did get a choice. And I’m honored I got to step up to the challenge to do something bigger than myself.”
Lauren is now preparing to take the next step in her life after graduation. She hopes to land a job working on sustainability practices for large corporations.
Congratulations, Lauren! We are #CAFNRproud of you and your determination!
