Das 2022 von John Neumeier kreierte Stück widmet sich den Wegbereiter*innen des deutschen Ausdruckstanzes, den ästhetischen Entwicklungen seit Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts und den biografischen Brüchen im Tanz nach der Machtübernahme durch den Nationalsozialismus bis nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Die Inszenierung folgt den Spuren zentraler Figuren wie Rudolf von Laban, Harald Kreutzberg oder Mary Wigman und befragt dabei auch kritisch deren ambivalente Haltungen. Vor allem aber stellt sie die Erinnerung an die Künstler*innen, die verfolgt, vertrieben, aus dem öffentlichen Bewusstsein verdrängt wurden oder deren Leben gewaltsam endete, an die „Unsichtbaren“, auf künstlerische Weise in den Mittelpunkt.
In einer erzählerisch eindringlichen Collage aus Tanz, dokumentarischen Spielszenen und live aufgeführter Musik der Zeit entsteht ein vielschichtiges Bild der Tanzrebell*innen, dem das virtuose junge Ensemble besondere Authentizität verleiht und ein berührendes Zeichen gegen das Vergessen setzt.
