Gentle parenting isnโt being too relaxed or letting behaviour continue.
Itโs about teaching skills in a calm, clear, consistent way so children learn what to do instead.

๐ Your child is not naughty or lazy.
Every child wants to do well.
No child wakes up wanting to be sad, angry, or struggling โ behaviour is communication.
๐ Progress isnโt always visible.
Sometimes therapy looks like play, chatting, or small steps. We wish there was a magic wand that โfixesโ everything overnight โ growth takes time.
๐ Practice in real life matters most.
What happens at home, school, and in everyday routines is where skills truly build.
๐ Every child develops differently.
Comparing to age expectations or other children can create pressure instead of progress. Letโs focus on strengths and meaningful goals.
๐ Modelling and small strategies are working more than you think.
Children are always watching, learning, and building skills slowly and steadily.
๐ And yesโฆ sometimes we yell by accident.
We are human too.
What matters most is the repair โ saying sorry, reconnecting, and showing children how relationships heal. That is one of the most powerful lessons we can model.
๐ Regulation comes before learning.
When a child feels safe and calm, their brain is ready to grow.
๐ Accommodations may always be needed โ and thatโs okay.
Supports arenโt failures. They are tools that help children participate with confidence.

Find a heart.
Made out of anything you see. ๐
โจ Your brain is more powerful than you think.
๐ Can you find any hearts hidden in this picture?
Look around you right now & try to find a heart.
It might be:
โข Two leaves touching
โข A crack in the pavement
โข A cloud in the sky
โข Toys on the floor
It doesnโt have to be perfect.
You just have to notice it.
Hereโs the cool partโฆ
Your brain sees what you teach it to look for.
If you look for scary things - it finds them.
If you look for mistakes - it finds them.
If you look for hearts - it finds them too.
That means your mind is strong.
It can shift.
It can focus.
It can choose.
And every time you do this, youโre making your mind stronger because it shows your mind is in control.
When things feel big or overwhelming, try this:
Pause.
Take one slow breath.
Find a heart.
Youโre gently teaching your brain:
โจ โI can look for something good.โ
A little challenge for both kids & adults.
Tag us in your heart finds ๐๐
Because small shifts can create a big impact.

Dear Therapists.
Dear Providers.
Dear Families.
This one is for you. ๐
With all the changes around Thriving Kids, the uncertainty, the โwhat does this mean?โ, the funding questions, the policy shiftsโฆ itโs a lot.
Itโs okay if youโre feeling:
โข worried
โข frustrated
โข confused
โข dysregulated
โข out of control
โข tired of the unknown
Last year asked a lot of us. And this year has started with more questions than answers.
So today, instead of pretending itโs all fine -
Letโs acknowledge the hard thoughts.
โI donโt know whatโs going to happen.โ
โWhat if supports change?โ
โHow will this impact the children?โ
โAm I doing enough?โ
These thoughts are real.
They deserve space.
But hereโs what we also knowโฆ
โจ We care deeply about the children and families we support.
โจ We show up with integrity.
โจ We advocate.
โจ We collaborate.
โจ We do the best we can with the information we have.
And that has always been enough.
At Bumble Bea Occupational Therapy, our values of connection, empowerment, collaboration, strengths value donโt change โ even when systems do.
We are in this together.
Not alone.
Not against each other.
But beside one another.
If today feels heavy, this is your reminder to:
๐ Go for a walk in the sunshine
๐ Step away from the laptop to have a break
๐ Drink a favourite fruity drink
๐ Breathe and ground yourself to the sounds of nature
๐ Talk to someone who gets it
๐ Do something that fills your bucket
Regulation before reaction.
Connection before control.
We canโt control policy shifts.
But we can control how we care for ourselves and each other.
Whatever unfolds โ we will meet it with:
Compassion.
Collaboration.
Advocacy.
And the best weโve got.
Happy Valentineโs Day to our incredible hive.
You are seen. You are valued. You are not alone. ๐๐

At Bumble Bea Occupational Therapy, our space is a safe, welcoming place where children are truly seen, heard, and supported - just as they are.
Every detail of this space reflects our values: connection, empowerment, collaboration and their strengths. A belief that children thrive when they feel safe enough to be themselves ๐ฑ
Within these walls, children are supported to explore, build confidence, and develop skills in ways that honour who they are - at their own pace.
๐ We work with NDIS (self-managed & plan-managed) and private pathways, including self-funded, Medicare, and private health insurance options where applicable.
This space isnโt about pressure or performance.
Itโs about safety, trust, and gentle growth โจ

This yearโs theme โOccupational Therapy in Actionโ celebrates the creativity, compassion, and connection that OTs bring to life every day. ๐
At times, BBOT might be a little MIA on socials; but thatโs because our energy is focused where it matters most: supporting the children and families who need it ๐
Amidst ongoing NDIS changes and the challenges faced across our community, letโs stay united as oneโฆ advocating for our profession, uplifting each other, and celebrating the wins (big and small) along the way ๐
Hereโs to every OT making a difference - through play, empowerment, and everyday moments of growth.
This is OT in action. โจ

Yes! Weโve all been here before.. And as we learn, we change and do better. As OTโs, we strive to support individuals in a way that is respectful, affirming, and person-centered. One way we can improve is by moving away from labels like high-functioning and low-functioning when describing our clients.
Hereโs why these terms are problematic:
๐ฉThey Dismiss Support Needs
Someone described as high-functioning may not receive the support they require because their challenges are minimised. Someone labeled low-functioning may be denied opportunities for independence because they are assumed to be โincapable.โ
๐ฉ They Can Be Harmful
These labels contribute to stigma and ableism. They can make individuals feel unheard, misunderstood, or pressured to meet unrealistic expectations.
๐ฉ They Oversimplify Abilities
A person labeled high-functioning may still have significant challenges that arenโt being acknowledged, while someone labeled low-functioning may have strengths that are overlooked. These labels fail to capture the complexity of an individualโs skills and struggles.
๐ฉ It Does Not Reflect Fluctuating Capacities
Abilities fluctuate based on environment, stress, fatigue, and access to accommodations. No one functions at the same level across all situations.
โจLetโs advocate for language that truly reflects the strengths, challenges, and potential of those we support.

Scooter boards arenโt just funโtheyโre an amazing way to provide heavy work (proprioceptive input) to help kids regulate their bodies, strengthen muscles, and improve motor planning.
โจ Why Heavy Work?
Heavy work activities engage the muscles and joints, promoting body awareness, attention, and regulation. Theyโre perfect for kids who need help with focus, coordination, or sensory processing!
โจ Scooter Board Activities to Try:
๐น Superman Push: Have kids lie on their tummy and push themselves forward using their handsโgreat for upper body strength!
๐น Obstacle Course: Navigate around cones, under tunnels, or to get from one object to another.
๐น Partner Pull: One child pulls another using a ropeโhello, teamwork and core activation! Or alternatively, partner holds the rope whilst the person on scooter board pulls!
๐น Car Ride: Sit on the scooter board and use legs to get around โan awesome way to activate those leg muscles!
These activities help with self-regulation, endurance, and coordinationโall while having fun!

Itโs been a while, so thought I would reintroduce myself. My name is Beatriz and I have the biggest passion working with my beautiful clients. I pour my heart & soul into expanding my knowledge on neuro-affirming practices and learning from the neurodivergent community. I truly believe in focussing on client strengths, their rights and self-identity rather than their differences. I specialise in working predominantly with autistic and ADHDers aged 2-12 years and absolutely adore incorporating their interests to keep them motivated and strive to be the best version of themselves so that they reach their full potential. Hereโs hoping that Bumble Bea Occupational Therapy can support you through some activities, ideas, strategies and resources. Sending you all so much love, strength and positivity โกโกโก X
