It has been a much needed summer break from posting. For those that donāt know, I am a full time English teacher and literacy specialist. I am also now a full time Ph.D. student at the same time. This past year has been insane, but I am slowly coming back to the things that bring me joy and settling into my new routine. Part of that is coming back to reading and talking about books with you all.
I am reading so much on a daily basis for work and school now that it seems impossible to also be reading the same amount for fun. But somehow over the past few months books have become my outlet again after a long time of avoiding it.
To catch up on what Iāve been up to⦠I spent the summer traveling with friends and family. It was the first time in five years that I did not work over the summer and it truly made me feel like a new person. Some of my favorite reads from this summer were:
⢠The Jasad Heir/Jasad Crown duology
⢠The Knight and the Moth
⢠The Lamb
⢠Hunchback
I also had the chance to go to NYC for a few days. I tried to fit in every bookish activity and location possible & bought manyyy tote bags. All of the stores I visited:
Iām excited for fall and winter books & there are so many new releases that I canāt wait to talk about! Thank you to everyone who has texted or messaged me about books this summer, it really is my favorite thing š«¶š¼
Up next, Iām going to Dublin for work/school. If you have any recs, please send them my way!
This isnāt an ad in any way, I just really love!! It costs the same amount as Audible, has the same books, AND you can choose an indie bookstore to support and ābuyā your books from. I saw a post a few months ago about it and made the switch in about ten minutes.
Anyway, I have a long drive coming up this weekend and Iām looking forward to listening to some books to pass the time. Iāve been waiting to read Sky Daddy until it comes out in paperback, but that might be where I start.
Have a good weekend, everyone š«¶š¼

Hi, everyone! Iām back and doing lots of summer reading. Lining up some recs for summer, audiobooks, and more:)
In the meantime, here are a few books I want to get to in the next few months:
- Woodworm by Layla Martinez
- Love in Exile by Shon Faye
- Apartment Women by Gu Byeong-mo
Have a great weekend!
Somehow I made some people mad on TikTok with this post. Iām fairly new to sharing videos on there and I really wasnāt used to the differences in comments. On here, comments are mostly positive⦠but TikTok is wild.
So, sorry in advance to any diehard Emily Henry fans out there. Fans of Cleo & Frank, as well.
*sings* this is just my opinionnnn
Have a great weekend, everyone:)
Hi, friends. Iām currently on spring break and finally have some time to sit down and read! I wanted to share some of my picks for this spring, through books I want to read soon or have read recently.
What Iām looking forward to reading:
- Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins (Iāve always been a huge THG fan & Iāve been avoiding spoilers on tiktok but have already seen people crying over this one. A little scared.)
- Blob by Maggie Su
- The Lamb by Lucy Rose
- Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green (not pictured, but again excited to read. I started listening to the audio because it is short and his voice brings me back to watching Crash Course in middle school)
Books Iāve read recently:
- The Unworthy by Agustina Bazterrica (yeah. yup. If you liked/ could handle Tender is the Flesh then you will like this one too)
- First Time Caller by B.K. Borison (this one was cute! Wasnāt my absolute favorite, but it was a nice rom-com break. Fun for fans of Sleepless in Seattle)
- Brutes by Dizz Tate (throwing this one on here for good measure. I havenāt had room to talk about it since reading a few months ago, but this is the perfect book to look ahead to summer in a weird and slightly feral fashion)
Iāve seen most of these titles floating around here a lot, so Iām excited to hear what everyone thinks. Lmk if youāve read any of these, I would love to chat!
Happy Valentineās Day, my loves. Today is my most favorite holiday because I love love.
A few weeks ago I had the girls over for a little galentineās celebration. We watched P&P, made keychains, and exchanged romance books.
I hope that however youāre celebrating today, you feel all of the love:) Iāve been saving First Time Caller to read this weekend, as a treat. Love you all very much!
There are a lot of authors that I go back to, no matter what. I have a copy of all of their books, or just wait eagerly for their newest release.
Pictured:
- Elena Ferrante (my hero and one true love)
- Sally Rooney
- Olivie Blake
- Sayaka Murata
- Kevin Wilson
- Domenico Starnone
- Tia Williams
Not pictured:
- Jhumpa Lahiri
- Carmen Maria Machado
- Jenny Hval
- Ottessa Moshfegh
- Mona Awad
- Lyla Sage
- Mariana Enriquez
- Isabel CaƱas
- Augustina Bazterrica
- Dolly Alderton
- bell hooks
Itās funny because last weekend I was telling my parents that I almost never read books written by men and yet⦠there are two on this list. But to be fair, Domenico is one of the people rumored to be Elena Ferrante so reading his books is research, kinda. And Kevin just writes perfect stories, it canāt be helped.
I love these authors and recommend them every time!! You can tell because Iāll even buy the hard covers of their books. Who are some of your favorites?
welcome to my goals for this year, reading wise, since I didnāt get around to it! weāre doing ins and outs:
ā Reading ins:
⢠saying āI donāt think I would like thatā (in a nice way) when people try to give you a crazy book rec
⢠sharing copies of your physical books with friends
⢠follow up ^ use a library scanner (not an ad at all, but I tried Libib a few weeks ago and their app is very easy and fun)
⢠finding people whose recs you always trust. my dear friend has never given me a book that I didnāt like and has made me a much cooler reader.
⢠pre-ordering books that you are really excited to read. I think itās fun to bring back release-day excitement.
⢠carrying a book with you everywhere (this is not new. as Jeremy Allen White said, āYou canāt be caught out there looking like a bozoā)
ā Reading outs:
⢠feeling bad for reading whatever tf you want
⢠saying that audiobooks donāt count as reading. I am literally an expert (you can cite this in an argument), and it uses the same semantic processing in your brain.
⢠feeling bad for not meeting a reading goal. it actually doesnāt matter & putting pressure on yourself will ruin the fun. read when you can, be impressed with yourself for finishing books, add it to your tracker, and move on!
⢠hardcover books (sorry, I donāt like reading them)
These are less āgoalsā and more intentions, I guess. I told my mom the other day that Iām reading this year like Iām trying to win a pizza party. Itās going to be a good book year, I can feel it!
What are your ins and outs? Any reads youāre excited to start the year with??
In my opinion, the best gift is a well-chosen book. Anyone who knows me knows that I take great pride in picking books I know someone will love. I put a lot of thought into this list, so here are my suggestions for some of the various characters in your lives. My favorite slide, as always, is the weird sh*t slide. I even threw in my own book wish list (hi, family).
Also, I know that the cover photo is from the new Barnes and Noble⦠but shop local bookstores this holiday season!! Some of my favorites in Chicago (and some Iāll be trying out) are:
I get all of my books from these stores! Please please please check them out.
Happy holidays and let me know if there are any other recs you need!
I get home from work around 5pm every day and yesterday was the first time that it was almost completely dark on my commute⦠there is nothing else I want to do when I get home other than sit on the couch and read an entire book in one night. I also donāt have a TV right now, so Iāve been trying to use my Audible credits. Iāve been crocheting and listening to Midnight Sun and Intermezzo interchangeably (lolll) (also, audiobooks do count as reading, please donāt be stupid). I keep pretending that Iām listening to some important serial on the radio like the old days.
On my TBR for the upcoming weeks:
- Finish Intermezzo finally
- Model Home by Rivers Solomon
- Brutes by Dizz Tate
- Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
Anyway, thatās what Iāve been up to. Iāll have some reviews and such coming soon! What are you all reading right now??
