They say the best companies or products come from solving a problem… and our workouts at Paragon actually started with solving mine.
In 2017, I was burnt out on competitive CrossFit, struggling with my weight, recovering from shoulder surgery, and desperately trying to feel better after years and years of under-eating & working out too much.
I just knew there had to be a better way… so I hired one of the best coaches in the industry to program my workouts.
I wanted to have it all: to have fun, to look and feel great, to get stronger and see new PR’s… but also to have more time to live a BIG life outside of the gym (vs spending hours each day endlessly working out)
It took some trial and error, but after about 6 months of Bryan’s workout programming, I was looking & feeling better than ever - and that’s when we realized we were onto something and had to share it with the world 🩷
In 2018, Paragon was born and we started selling our workouts online. And our community grew like wildfire in ways we never could have imagined 🫶🏼
It’s been an absolutely amazing ride over the years and we’re SO grateful for y’all.
All this to say: thanks for being here and for trusting us to help you all get stronger, happier, and healthier. And cheers to another year of getting jacked together (:
When did YOU join the Paragon fam?!
We’d love to hear from you in the comments ↓↓

Brian’s been a lifelong iron addict, but over time he layered in more cardio — without shrinking his muscle.
The result? Better health, better performance, and endurance PRs stacked on top of strength.
We dig into:
Why hybrid training isn’t the enemy of muscle
Balancing lifting + cardio without frying recovery
Brian’s strategies for keeping size while boosting endurance
Cardio’s impact on aesthetics, well-being, and performance
How tech + training are colliding in cool ways
If you’ve ever wondered how to blend cardio with lifting and not tank your progress, this one’s for you.

My first impression of Bryan Birsic was to be struck that we had the same first name (spelled the same), and the same first initial in the last name. My dude!
I met him in 2020, but it was six years prior when Bryan founded Wunder, a national leader in the solar industry, focused on modernizing energy and infrastructure
Wunder launched in early 2014 with the goal of addressing the sustainable energy market, particularly solar energy. They noticed that while solar technology was growing, there was a gap in financing for smaller, less traditional solar projects. Wunder aims to fill this gap by connecting investors with these projects.
Bryan was the CEO for the first six years, and did an incredible job growing the company and securing multiple rounds of funding. Wunder is now Blackstone’s lead partner in financing projects across the United States.
But Bryan is not just a founder, entrepreneur and CEO. He is also a dad of three awesome kids (9, 7 and 4), which is the avenue by which we were originally connected.
Since that time in 2020, we have taken Ski trips, played tons of Disc golf, drank beers at guys night, travelled to Costa Rica for a mutual self-exploration experience, and had many enlightening conversations, usually during a hike in nature.
He has also overcome a horrific ski accident in his 20’s that almost ended his life, and has had a transformative impact on the way he lives his life.
In this episode, we delve into the ski accident, discuss his journey through founding multiple start-ups (including whether fear is a good motivator or not), go deep into the distinction between breathwork and meditation (and why they’re both important), his journey around personal growth, and then we investigate the current state of the economy, and what he expects from the evolution of AI.
This is probably my favorite conversation we’ve had on Life Reflected (along with the very first episode which explored extroversion and being a “super connector” amongst friends).
I am confident everyone will find the episode both relatable and valuable.
Thanks for listening!

I was impressed by how productive all the workouts were, especially the quality of the strength workouts in under 30 mins each.
Can’t wait to ride my bike tomorrow!
Tinkering with the details is fun and keeps the journey interesting. But it should not be a dark cloud creating doubt and forcing you into being neurotic.
The real prize is building self awareness.
Most pre determined splits try to put you into a box, assuming your muscles all recover and progress best with the same frequency.
This is likely not true.
There are likely certain muscles that will perform and respond best to more or less frequency.
Train hard and evolve
Eventually you’ll get pretty damn close to your best physique.
It’s been a number of months since I’ve been consumed by this idea, and it has finally come to fruition.
The official write-up for the podcast and for episode 1 are both in the swipes, but I want to use this space to be a bit more vulnerable.
I’m not sure what happened as I entered my 40’s, but I think it can all be traced back to how I decided to spend my 40th bday, back in 2022.
I opted to take a solo trip to the mountains for some hiking and hot-tub personal time. It actually ended up being a not-so-great experience, where I felt overwhelmed by the sense of life sipping away.
A sense of immortality had dominated my prior years and I was suddenly faced with the harsh reality of envisioning a life without me in it (in the not-so-distant future).
The notion of being half-way done with this journey burdened me as I sat there in the hot tub by myself, NOT surrounded by the people that I love. A decision I had made of my own volition.
As someone who had not been extremely introspective up until that point, I felt a monumental shift in the way I perceive myself and the world around me.
Instead of the selfish existence of life, focusing mostly on me and how I was personally impacted by my surroundings, I began to take a much more interested perspective on the way we all relate the world and the interconnectedness of the entire experience.
This one single experience has had a trickle down effect that has impacted the way I think and reflect on so many aspects of life which I took for granted in the past.
Now I purposely seek out alternative perspectives and empathize more. It’s been enlightening, and provided me with vigor and confidence to feel more informed.
I’ve also become a sponge for learning and self-development.
After many years of ingesting information and ruminating on it, I now feel compelled to share some of my reflections.
This podcast provides an outlet for me to connect with others, and collectively we can enhance the shared experience of our lives here on earth.
is the man in episode 1!
I've been lifting for 25+ years, but only since summer 2022 did I begin to prioritize cardio as a tool to aid in the pursuit of overall health.
Over the last 18 months, I've digested an endless stream of content around optimizing lifespan and more importantly, healthspan.
As it turns out, health is not just manifested by tangible physical attributes, or even seen completely through blood work (though blood work is important!)
Health is also a result of so many less obvious factors than nutrition and exercise…
How we manage stress
How much purpose we believe we have
How solid are our relationships with those around us
How happy or content we feel toward the world
How intellectually stimulated we are
How altruistic we are
This is not to minimize the physical side of the equation, because I also strongly believe that movement is medicine in so many ways.
Movement not only helps our bodies function better at a cellular level, but it also plays a huge role in mental well being.
Just today I was told about a guy who was like me and he hasn't been able to exercise for almost two years. It has been very difficult for him.
This got me thinking about where I'd be without exercise.
I move every day. It's not always intense, but it's purposeful.
Some days I lift
Some days I cardio
Some days I do both
Some days I just walk
Movement is 100% my version of medicine.
It has given me a profession
It is one element that gives me purpose
It has provided me a network of like-minded people
It helps me manage stress
It keeps me physically healthy
I try to move after almost every meal.
There are now multiple studies showing better blood sugar management with post-prandial movement. Even sitting at your desk doing calf raises appears to be beneficial as a signal to use the glucose you just ate. Kinda wild.
Muscle is also a sink for glucose. Build muscle and maintain that muscle into old age for better metabolic health.
Not even sure where I'm going with this. It's mostly just a love story between me and exercise, and I wanted to share it with you in under 2200 characters:-)
From Oct 9 - April 9, isolated bi/tri work was performed with only my left arm.
I continued to train my upper compound movements with both arms (press, row, pull etc...)
At the beginning and end of the 6 mths, I did three forms of assessment:
1. DEXA
2. Measurements
3. Strength Testing (L/R)
*only at 6 mths
-
See SWIPES for data from start to end of experiment
My thoughts below:
1. DEXA
Showed an INCREASE in muscle mass on my RIGHT, and a DECREASE in muscle mass on my LEFT; completely counterintuitive, and extremely frustrating data
My first thought was measurement error. But my ENTIRE BODY grew (increase in LBM of.8 lbs), and yet my left arm apparently had the opposite result
The second thought is that maybe I was over training my left arm. I have a hard time believing this, as I generally train with lower volume / higher intensity, but I guess it's possible
2. MEASUREMENTS
The reliability is difficult here. I measured my arms multiple times over 3 days (to mitigate the possibility of single-measurement error)
It seems both arms reliably grew SLIGHTLY from the initial measurements, but the measurements over the 3 days have been within a range
Left from 16.75 to ~17''
Right from 17 to ~17.25''
Also noteworthy that the DEXA shows I gained fat on my left arm, so that could account for some size increase (given DEXA shows lost muscle on the left).
3. STRENGTH TESTING
*Videos in swipe are final 2 reps of each set
Prior to the experiment, my left arm was consistently 1-rep weaker than my right, and felt less coordinated with all movements.
Now the strength is basically equal between the arms. My right arm coordination feels worse, but I am positive that within a couple weeks of training my right arm again, this would revert back to how it was prior (right arm dominance).
FINAL THOUGHTS:
I dont F-ing know. Did I overtrain my left arm? Should I completely stop training arms now?
My intuition says I don't need arm work. But I really struggle to believe I lost muscle because I over trained it.
Mostly glad the experiment is over, and look forward to returning to normal training!
