Rob did everything he could to help my career. He was instrumental throughout the entire journey: before, during, and after my accident.
As soon as he heard about my accident, thousands of calls to Italy began. Find Bruna. Find her luggage. Find a way to get her home as soon as possible. Find support. FIND PINK ELEPHANT AND BRING IT TO HER! Call the insurance company. Handle the paperwork. Contact the best hospital for Bruna's recovery. Find the best physiotherapist in the country so Bruna can still pursue her Olympic dream towards 2026.
Back home, he changed my bandages (and even my pee bag 😅), drove me to physiotherapy an hour away from home, for as long as it took. He helped find support for new training equipment and adapted whatever was needed in the house so a hospital bed could fit in the living room and a wheelchair could move around freely.
Doctor's appointments? Of course. I lost count of how many times he drove me there. And he still does to this day.
Fighting for the Olympics? Let's make the logistics work together with Pascal. Why not even show up at one of the races as a surprise? 😃❤️

Há tanto o que dizer sobre o Pascal, aquele que conhece todos os meus segredos, medos, inseguranças, ambições, desafios... é difícil falar sobre ele sem fazer uma declaração de amor.
Um homem paciente, inteligente, amoroso, carinhoso. O ponto de equilíbrio perfeito para essa bola de estresse que sou.
Quantas vezes achei que não conseguiria, e lá estava ele insistindo em me fazer acreditar.
Quando eu não tinha forças, quando traumas (até mesmo de infância) me mantinham acordada, ele segurou minha mão e me guiou para um lugar de paz.
Se os últimos anos foram uma loucura na minha vida, imagina na dele que tinha uma vida tão pacata antes de eu aparecer como um furacão bagunçando tudo?! E mesmo assim ele sempre fez questão de estar ao meu lado.

Already in my first Freestyle race, I had severe pain in both shins. Halfway through the race I had to switch to Double Poling, and my lower back got stiff from compensating. It was a disaster…and only the beginning.
The following week, I had to withdraw before the start because during warm-up I could barely move my legs. Racing on that track would have meant risking a serious crash on the downhills.
After that, I spent days at physio trying to "heal" for the next race. I managed to start and finish, but the result was another disaster.
The only thing working was Classic technique. So early in the season I had to focus completely on it and hope it would be enough, while the Olympic fight kept getting tighter. Our Olympic ranking consisted on the average of 6 results in total: 3 Classic Sprints + 3 Freestyle Distances. And now I needed to score amazingly in only 3 (the Sprints) to compensate.
Back in the Netherlands in December, I finally got the diagnosis: bilateral compartment syndrome. Honestly, I laughed. "The timing could not have been more 'perfect' (again)".
Surgery was the real solution, but there was no time. Instead, my sports doctor, Dr. Petra, looked at me and said: “We are on a mission.”
And we were.
She searched for every possible temporary treatment to keep the Olympic dream alive, made contacts and three professionals accepted the mission and played a huge role in making this possible:
in Nunspeet, who was already helping me and became essential during this period.
from, who made time for me, searched for solutions, and treated me before my final races in January.
And David Evers from, in Culemborg, who created specific insoles for my ski boots to reduce tension in my tibias and give me more support.
Thanks to these incredible professionals and Dr. Petra, I was able to keep fighting through the season and qualify for Milano-Cortina 2026.
We did it. I can't thank you all enough. Mission accomplished 🫡
