I spent the whole day out at Denver International Airport chasing planes, and by the time the thunder started rolling in, I was exhausted, sunburnt, and ready to call it. I had already packed most of my gear when the rain starting pouring down and the wind was absolutely howling as it was one of those Colorado storms that appears out of nowhere and swallows the entire horizon.
I remember standing there, debating whether to wait it out or just head home. And then, right as the rain started to break, I looked up and there it was. A massive full rainbow stretching across the entire approach path. Planes were literally flying straight through it as they lined up to land at Denver International Airport. It did not even feel real. It felt like the kind of moment you only get when you decide to stay a little longer.
I pulled my camera back out with rain still pouring down, and for a few minutes the sky put on one of the most unbelievable shows I have ever seen. Dark storm clouds on one side, and sunlight and clear blue skies on the other, and a rainbow arcing over it all!
I almost missed this shot because I thought my day was over. But this is why I stay. This is why I wait. These are the moments that remind me why I love chasing skies, airplanes, and all the magic that appears when you least expect it.
