How incredible is the weather at the moment? It's been coming down cats & dogs since late yesterday when the heavens seriously opened!
My place at Kedron had 30mm in one hour between 4 & 5pm last night, the torrential downpour so heavy that visibility from my balcony was down to about 200m👀
Today is looking like more of the same - again the threat of a potential of a thunderstorm at anytime looms which is highly unusual at this time of year🤔
The commute across town this morning began with light drizzle, but descended into exceptionally heavy rain for the last 10kms. It is still absolutely pouring down at work presently🌧️
I don't mind the rain at all, any time of the year, although I am not overly keen on wet weekends... Although they DO provide the opportunity to capture the damp delights of the city after dark📷
Here are a few rainy night photos that I prepared earlier to brighten an otherwise gloomy morning in the south east✨
As evidenced here, getting out with the camera when the rain is still coming down doesn't bother me at all - after all, being wet is only temporary. The trusty D7200 is weather sealed too, as are all of my lenses so them getting as saturated as I isn't an issue

That's something that Brisbane has in spades when the sun is below the horizon, even during the blue hour before sunrise as the night slowly gives way to day the city lights still bring a beautiful sparkle✨
This new perspective discovered recently provides views of the New Farm Riverwalk, the Story bridge, and Captain Burke park with the tallest of the CBD towers visible beyond bathed in that superb morning light
Sunrise may not have the bold colours that often occur as the nights lengthen and the days shorten, but sometimes it is just nice to experience these soft pastels 🌤️
Here's to hump day arriving already, even if it is going to be yet another damp one 🌧️ At least we have cool to mild nights and pleasantly warm days with the cloud cover keeping the temperatures up a little

Just to remind everyone how awesome our river city is when the skies are clear in Autumn, and just how vast our city is🗺️
I'm never one to let a couple of days when the rain is NOT coming down to go waste, especially over a weekend when the daytime temperatures are absolutely perfect for spending time outside🌡️
The weekend started early with a stop at the Kangaroo Point bridge for some predawn colour on Saturday, but sadly household chores were required but that was acceptable as the day turned a bit gloomy☁️
Sunday was greeted with a pleasant sleep in, followed by a mid-morning cruise up to the summit lookout at Mount Coot-tha for a coffee and a drones-eye view across the leafy suburbs to the CBD and beyond📷
Given the day was wonderfully sunshiny still, the roads beckoned, so a leisurely spin to Brisbane's most northerly suburb was definitely a great way to relax and unwind👌
I decided to include the bike photos to show an addition that I had wanted since buying her three years ago: the tour pack (or top box as they're commonly referred to) that allows the drone to be carried as securely as possible when I choose to enjoy two wheeled transport
The hard case that keeps the drone safe and secure sadly does not fit into the saddlebags of either bike, and I'm always extremely wary of carrying it in a soft case, as the propellers could easily be damaged!
So, a few dollars and a couple of hours of work later the drone has its very own storage compartment - and I couldn't be happier😀
Needless to say that additional carry space will definitely come in handy when there are overnight rides 💼 Now it's a Street Glide ST Ultra - a model that doesn't exist!
The forecast for the rest of the working week is not exactly conducive to fun on two wheels, however it's looking like being another perfect weekend to be out and about
The rain is fine with me, as it will keep everything green just a little longer🌿 And remember to think positively: if it wasn't for rainy days we wouldn't look forward to the sunny ones as much now would we😉

The views across Howard Smith Wharves from a few feet above the clifftop adjacent to the lookout deck never fails to deliver stunning results, as was the case on Saturday night📷
Lit in white and blue to celebrate the 50th Paniyiri Festival over the weekend the Story bridge was looking as resplendent as ever beneath those pretty pastel skies
Brisbane after dark is absolutely filled to the brim with entertainment options to suit all lifestyles and budgets, from completely free walks along the many riverside paths to high end dining and everything in between
For those who desire something amazing, the Story bridge adventure climb is definitely a must-do! I can thoroughly recommend this unique Brisbane experience - one of only three bridge climbs on the planet 🌏
The view from on top of the structure across the river to the CBD skyline after dark is simply superb. If you check back into my feed to new years eve then you'll see what I mean😉

Sunset yesterday treated those of us who were out and about in the city to a magnificent display of crepuscular rays, which are created direct sunlight pierces through gaps in clouds - the dark bands are the shadows cast by the clouds🌤️
It is not often that I'll venture into the city at both ends of the day, however I had a distinct feeling that we might enjoy a decent sunset given the small amount of cloud cover late in the afternoon...
The day started wonderfully clear, but ended up turning into a mostly cloudy and rather blustery day, one conducive to relaxing at home - although that had to wait until the usual weekend housework was completed, and my signature twelve hour slow cooked Vesuvius Vindaloo to be divided into portions for the coming week😋
Then it was time for relaxation done my way: polishing the bike, followed up with a couple of lazy hours on Fallout🎮😉
As I wandered downstairs to finish the laundry late in the day I couldn't help but notice the clouds, so the freshly detailed wheels were put into service taking me to Wilson's Outlook to enjoy the sunset
And enjoy it I did! Not only did the dusk deliver beauty, I had some unexpectedly delightful company too... A lovely visitor from Spain was interested in drone ops in Australia. Thanks for the wonderful chat Maria🙏
It's truly special being able to meet complete strangers who share a common interest in photography, who are living here now, even if temporarily, and share with them just how much I adore this city and make them feel welcome

This morning's predawn light was superb, and well worth rising after a welcome sleep-in at 0500 to experience the cool Autumn colours as a new day dawns and the city awakens from its slumber💤
Conditions were challenging for the drone with strong gusty winds blowing in from the west - it almost feels like Ekka time already over the last few days...
However the upgrade from the capable but tiny Mini 3 Pro to the much larger Air 3S has proven to be a very wise decision. It's larger props, motors, and overall weight makes it far more stable even with strong, direction-changing winds👌
Bridges and landmarks across the CBD were lit in brilliant red last night in support of Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month❤️
This campaign hopes to increase public understanding of CF, which is a complex genetic condition affecting thousands of Aussie, and to help raise vital funding to support people living with CF and their families🙏

Already this morning as I sit in the Botanic gardens compiling this post, there are early morning runners, walkers, and cyclists filling the pathways and city reach riverwalk enjoying the wonderful cool morning air
The weather is looking to turn potentially damp again tomorrow, so enjoy the dry while you can😀
After more than a week of practically constant rainy days, the heavy clouds finally departed SE Qld late yesterday afternoon leaving behind soggy ground and swollen creeks, but also a city washed squeaky clean ✨
The view from the balcony as the sun finally made its presence known lighting up the foreground magically with the dark sky beyond was an absolutely welcome sight👌
There is something mesmerising about a scene like this when the sun is shining after rain has passed, the vivid contrast between light and dark creates quite a pleasant scene, even with something as mundane as a suburban view 🌿
The outlook for the remainder of the working week is for brilliantly sunny days with clear skies, cool nights and days of pleasant temperatures, with a few clouds arriving over the weekend - but gladly no rain!
For that I am glad, as I have withdrawals if I don't have the chance to enjoy a ride to work at least once a week to supplement my weekends on two wheels😉
Whilst I don't mind getting caught in the rain, but arriving at work wet isn't a lot of fun... That and the fact that rainy mornings over the weekend means no drone photo opportunities!
So enjoy the coming days friends, just in case the weather turns a bit inclement again later in the month

When the skies are grey and lifeless first thing in the morning there is of course still incredible beauty to be discovered in the heart of the Brisbane CBD
Whilst hovering above the river next to the Kangaroo Point pedestrian bridge I made the switch to the telephoto camera on the awesome DJI Air 3S in order to capture the views looking up Margaret Street📷
This particular perspective on the CBD shows the wonderfully eclectic mix of building eras & styles that make the cityscape so amazing to photograph, or to simply pause and admire🤔
Colours and textures, different façades from glass to concrete to brick, extreme variations in building height combine with tree-lined streets, river glimpses and the views across suburbia in the distance to create a very 'busy' yet beautiful cityscape
The white building with the green roof that can be seen in the middle distance is the absolutely magnificent Queensland Club building completed in 1884
This superb building is definitely one of the most beautifully designed historical constructions in the city and one of my personal favourites (although rather difficult to photograph from the street given it is surrounded by mature trees🌿)
The final skyscrapers of the Queens Wharf development will eventually almost completely hide the tower of power at 1 William Street from this angle, so I am glad to have taken this photograph for posterity⌛
I believe that it is important that the ever-changing face of our city be photographed and documented enabling future generations to be able to see 'how it was.' Needless to say, I am humbled that a lot of my work has been stored in the QUT digital archives for just such a purpose🙏

My weekend began early Saturday morning with a corporate shoot close to the New Farm end of the iconic Brisbane Riverwalk, so of course I found the time to capture a few quick views prior to the beginning of civil twilight📷
The engineering marvel that is Riverwalk provides an over-the-water pathway for cyclists and pedestrians, and of course photographers as the views upstream to the Story bridge and city skyline are really quite beautiful
The rain that had fallen across the city earlier in the morning had fortunately passed, bringing almost clear skies and a most refreshing faint odour of remaining petrichor to the dawn breezes👌
No perfect river surface reflections were on offer, however when you're taking in the sweeping vistas up and down the river from anywhere along Riverwalk the lack of any potential mirror effect is no great loss😉
Now that the daytime (and evening) heat of summer has abated it is the perfect time to enjoy a stroll along the pathway here, in no hurry to get anywhere in particular so you can soak in the atmosphere of our wonderful river city
