I honestly hope I never have to make that phone call. But I let the gravity of that line speak to my soul.
And John Cena said it perfectly yesterday on X: Build yourself not to prevent crises, but to withstand them.
Because truth be told, I never wanted to be the: “I am alone, punch me live in 30 seconds” type of girl, but after the pandemic it’s a real reality for me.
And you have to know what you’re signing up for.
Kind of like when I had to learn the very hard way why some live streams are published without sound.
Once you walk through that door, you’re never the same. Which must be why they always say, the only way out is through.
And a $1.50 flashlight will get you through the night — maybe not as long as an HVAC system, but long enough to dial the numbers on the phone to make the call needed for help.
And maybe love, in some ways, is watching people show up for you when you need them the most.

I define happiness more as a science than a fleeting feeling. And according to what I’ve seen today from Houston content creators — it’s believing in your ability to succeed.

But I was truly curious — what’s a tangible way of describing self-trust?
According to an article in Forbes that I found — it’s trusting your capacity to handle challenges and “do hard things,” choosing courage over comfort and self-trust over self-doubt.
So why is it so scary to trust yourself sometimes? Trusting yourself demands losing control and embracing vulnerability.
And since emotional context and vulnerability creates connection, here I am.
But I once felt like this with my love life too, and God truly blessed me. Had my share of heartbreaks only for God to give me something so beautiful I thank Him multiple times a day.
And I truly believe it’s because I shared my struggles with the world with faith.
And maybe that’s how I define happiness.

But I was fundamentally naive, until the pandemic. And now it’s my competitive edge.
Showed up BIG and still lost. And I’ll continue to do it, even when I know I’m getting cut. While most argue about timing…
But I found myself thinking about what type of reputation I want to build as a Houston content creator:
High value, but I also want to be known for developing digital killers — with high integrity, creativity, and value.
According to Forbes, managers who develop talent build stronger reputations but only 33% are effective at career development discussions. Yet employees promoted internally have a 40% higher retention rate and 79% increase in leadership promotions.
Meanwhile self-focused managers may rise in the short-term but create long-term damage due to a higher attrition rate. A poor work environment makes good employees quit 10 times more often than low pay does.
The people you lead either represent your inner security or your insecurity.
And I woke up the past two years staring out my window looking at The Post Oak. I kept pushing myself — provide value like those guys and value will find me, even if no one believes in me.
This, as I took today off after a long weekend, working the 10 pm and scheduled today at 9 a.m.
And I spent most of the morning looking at every job opening at my work, pulling up every reference to my creative work, and told myself, this is the way:
Take the concepts I don’t understand and obsess over them until I do. And I’ll have a successful content, sales and marketing business in Houston.
Similar to when I go to a restaurant and don’t fully understand what the menu is offering — I go to DoorDash to see the pictures to make better decisions.
Winning is a conscious decision, and when you truly live a purpose-driven life, nothing happens to you but for you.
Gotta learn the lesson or you’ll stay the same. Or maybe, it’s really about unlearning so you become the person God created you to be before the world told you to change for approval.
And I think that’s what it’s going to take to create a bigger space for myself as a content creator in Houston.
Because to me, true privilege is having enough confidence to say what you think.
And very few do it.
But I’d rather be hated and disliked for who I am and how I think than hated or disliked for someone I’m trying to be, for approval. And I get it, because being hated isn’t for the faint of heart. In fact, it’s lonely at times.
But when you’ve done the inner work, showing up authentic and leading with integrity, you don’t need a lot of friends—just a few that you connect deeply with.
And I truly love my life, the people in it, and the community I’m building in Houston.
Honestly, I’m in awe of how our independent content creators showed up for Houston yesterday—braving rain and thunderstorms. Hustle, heart and BIG digital numbers.
And since Houston is now my forever home, I’m constantly thinking about what it’s going to take to change the game for me.
I’ve seen some strong ideas, been watching a few accounts. And it starts with having a strong digital product, which I have.
But I was curious—how many people play small to be liked? According to a Cato Institute and a Washington University study, 40-62% of Americans self-censor opinions due to fear of offense or backlash.
And even more interesting, an article in Forbes said we play small because of the fear of success.
But I really think success starts with who you surround yourself with, and I’m so very grateful that I get to share a part of my heart with my community.
It will always be a very important soul win to me. Just like my date nights with Paul.

The ground is already saturated, putting us at a higher risk for flooding.
