Mental Health Monday - Blue Monday edition.

Growing up I had a really negative mindset. I would let things that were usually out of my control stress me out and I really had to learn to grow through it.

Winters were especially hard doing SAD season where I would spiral and let my mind take control, with it being blue Monday I figure it’s a good time to revisit the tools that have helped me cope and change my mindset:

Journal - I usually write 3 affirmations and 3 goals for the day. Sometimes it’s easier on paper than speaking so I just get what I’m feeling down on paper.
-Remember that you can only control what’s in your circle (things like attitude, mindset, how you act/react) and realize you can’t control others circles.
-Look for positives - someone once said to me instead of focusing on the negatives right away, flip it and look for whats going right then learn from what went wrong.
-Go to therapy/meditate/breathing techniques (all great outlets).
-Change your environment (walk and get fresh air).
-Eat good food & stay hydrated.
-Get regular exercise and enjoy hobbies to stay busy.

Though it may not seem like it these challenges can help you grow. Self growth isn’t a one size fits all type thing so find your outlets and use them. If I can you can too!
Happy Third Birthday Larry! 🐕🎂🎉

I can’t believe how quickly the past few years have gone. I remember picking him at five months old like it was yesterday.

We had been looking at rescuing a dog for a while but Juliana and I wanted to wait until we moved in together - but that’s when we saw Larry on a rescue website and knew we just had to apply for him.

I still can’t believe this bundle of joy was left for bear meat in Nunavut. Ever since the day he was found, he’s been making everyone’s lives just a bit happier day in and day out. From our first day with him, he has been the absolute best little man you could ever ask for and absolutely love watching him continue to grow with us.

So Dobby, Scrappy Doo, Jerry, Larry the Kibble Guy, Gary, Barry, Buddybooboo, Angelboy, Larry Christopher, Larry David, Larry Barry, Ikea Monkey and whatever other nickname we’ve given you - Happy Birthday Third birthday little guy.
Someone tell me something good that happened to them this week cause I can’t take being heartbroken from sports again.

First in extra innings in the World Series and now in overtime in the playoffs after getting hosed on a call. My heart hurts.

Here’s for the people that have ever tried to make themselves feel smaller to fit in.

Literally had the best day ruined because I rewatched a run video and my first thought wasn’t look what I did. It was wow, I look huge right now. I know for a fact I hadn’t gained weight in over a year. I train regularly, eat healthy but my brain for my entire life has always played tricks on me.

And it’s wild how fast comparison can drown out effort. Even at my lowest weight I saw a bigger body.

But when I watched it again before I went to bed that night, I didn’t see a body to judge. I saw a body moving forward. Breathing hard. Not quitting. A body doing exactly what it was built to do.

So this year I’m trying to remind myself that progress isn’t found in angles or comparisons - it’s found in showing up.

And today, I’m choosing to be proud of the run, not the reflection. We got this!
Summer 16, apparently I loved Snapchat while also being the first year I took content creation seriously while sharing my journey.

Honestly crazy to look back and think that I’ve been posting for 10 years and I haven’t ran out of things to say. I guess when the journey throws you lots of curveballs, then it’s easy to think of something new.

This was also the year I finally got into long distance running, got under 200lbs for the first time since I came out of the womb and apparently thought I’d be more aerodynamic by taking an absolute 1 guard to the side of my dome.

Crazy to see how much progress we’ve made since then little boy. Here’s to the next 10 years.
Why do the easy ones always get you all up in your feels before getting out on a run.

Sat here for hours today putting it off my run because like what if my legs decided it was a tempo day? What if my lungs might file a formal complaint about the cold? What if my watch said I’m fine but my body said absolutely not.

All things that ran through my head all day. Anyway, I finally headed out to run and if you saw me smiling during it - just know it was going better than expected. If you saw me staring into the distance with no emotion - just know it wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be.

Got out the door by telling myself I was going for 15 mins, came back after 5k. That wasn’t so hard was it 😂
For years I was told I had to lose weight. And I did.

But when I gained it back, I realized it wasn’t the weight that was holding me back. In my eyes whether I was 360 pounds or 180 pounds - I was always the same person.

It didn’t matter what size I was, I realized I was too scared to live for me and what was really holding me back was the pressure, the guilt, the all-or-nothing rules, and the belief that my worth lived in a number.

I kept trying to “fix” my body when what actually needed to change was how I treated myself.

What I really needed to lose was the shame for resting, the idea that progress had to be extreme, and the voice that said starting over meant failing.

I needed to let go of punishing workouts, unrealistic timelines, and the habit of quitting the moment things felt uncomfortable. Slow progress still counts. Showing up imperfectly still counts.

So if you’re here thinking the answer is to be harder on yourself, it’s typically not. Lose the weight that isn’t weight. Lose the rules that keep you stuck. Build something you can come back to, even on the hard days. That’s the kind of progress that actually lasts.

Shoutout to the creator who I will tag below that inspired this idea!
Do you all mind if I just post this one last video? Because it really makes me happy to see it come to life!

Everyday I would walk around with the ring. Juliana had no idea, even taking videos with it behind her. Having it for so long I didn’t know what to do but just play with it everyday because I couldn’t wait to give it to her.

Even Larry and Pandy (J’s stuffed animal from as a kid) gave me their blessing when I showed it to them but as the days ticked down, I started making this video to put it all together for when we were finally engaged.

This will be the last video for now until we probably want to share all the amazing photos from the day but I can’t thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the support of us getting engaged. It truly means a lot!
I still can’t believe this happened.

This might be my favourite vlog I’ve ever made. For weeks I didn’t know if I would be able to pull it off. I always knew that she would say yes, but it’s so hard to keep a secret - especially for so long.

Last October after spending a few months designing the most gorgeous ring, I got the courage and hit purchase. I thought I should be happy but I just felt like something bad was about to happen.

An hour later I got a call my grandpa was in palliative care. The next day he passed away. The day after that - Juliana lost her job. It just wasn’t the time. It sucked but it’s life.

But that meant there was more time to plan - and after taking more time to think about it and revewing all the notes I took from listening to Juliana talk about her dream proposal every week. I got to scheming with my amazing Momagers, Sulvey and Alexa (I can’t thank them enough) and we built this plan.

From start to finish the whole weekend was perfect. The Air B&B was beautiful (1800’s home in PEC, stunning). The weather was amazing. Everything just came together as it should and I was finally able to get on a knee and give Juliana that stunning ring (I designed it with Paris Jewellers - can’t say enough good things about Khang, who helped make our dream ring come true).

I’m so thankful everyone that helped make this happen especially our parents, especially Juliana’s who gave me their blessing and also mine who changed their flight when I told them the plan. Our photographer Kassandra, who was absolutely amazing in helping me guise the brand photoshoot. As well as all the support to everyone who helped us along the way and the amazing outpouring of love on our announcement post.

But I’m especially thankful to Juliana to helping me believe that there is love out there and making me smile ear to ear for the past few years as my partner and now as my fiancé.

Can’t wait to see what the journey brings us next but for now it’s just soaking this all in.
