On a side note- a totally random stranger middle aged wh1te man - Not a mayo employee or another radiation patient- just some dude I’ve never seen before started filming me without consent when my actual Radiation Oncologist Doctor was already clearly filming me- noticed me looking straight at him and my Dr shot him a look too and only then did he ask if I wanted someone to film me!!! This is not ok. He dismissed my Dr who is a woman also. Even if he was well intentioned- an intimate moment of joy in the most vulnerable of situations is not anyone’s but your own to give consent to documenting, and consent is absolutely necessary. I’m not anyone’s random social media or private collection “moment” unless I say so myself. Don’t start filming first and ask consent AFTER you’re busted. Also weird is that he wasn’t even in the waiting room for Rad Onc, he came in from the massive hall lobby after spotting me. But anyways not letting that tarnish this moment at all! Just wanted to PSA and speak up for other seriously ill folx especially those who can’t advocate for themselves or those of us who don’t get the chance to notice and stop this behavior. Please ask first, we don’t need any added stress or anxiety thank you!🙏🏽 #cancer #cancersurvivor #stage4 #stage4cancer #itsawonderfullife
