Our time in the Namib desert was a dream. We stayed at, the perfect home base for exploring Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. These were shot on New Years Eve, and I can’t think of a better place to welcome the New Year!
Here’s how we spent our days in the desert:
6:00am Sunrise in the dunes
10:00am brekky and relax by the pool
2:00pm afternoon drive and explore
5:00pm margaritas at the bar
7:00pm find the best rock to climb for sunset
8:00pm fire up the Braai
10:00pm stargazing
If Namibia’s on your list, I can’t recommend Desert Quiver Camp enough!
Deadvlei is somewhere I’ve dreamt of visiting for years, and a place I’ve always been fascinated by.
Tucked deep inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Deadvlei is a white clay pan surrounded by some of the tallest sand dunes on Earth. This area used to be fed by a river that supported the Camel Thorn trees, but the dunes swept in and blocked the water flow to this spot around 1000 years ago.
The trees died and the climate stayed so dry that they never decomposed, leaving behind the blackened skeleton trees you see today.
This is one one of those places that feels surreal no matter how long you stand there (although you won’t stand there long, it’s dry and hot AF out here), and easily one of the most striking landscapes I’ve ever seen.
Visiting Deadvlei is the main reason we decided to head to Namibia, and is absolutely worth the faff of getting yourself out there. Just make sure you’re in a 4x4, it’s a longgggg way in the dirt and sand!

The algorithm ain’t gunna like this one, but 🖕
Sometimes a scene needs to be shown horizontally, especially when it comes to animals in the wild. It just didn’t feel right to crop these vertically, so I’m gunna break the “IG rules” on this one and share some moments that deserve a bit more room to breathe.
I found myself shooting a lot of content horizontally during Safari, almost more than vertically. Generally I’ll use those horizontal shots for split swipes or stacks, but other than that it’s unlikely they’ll ever see the light of day (which is such a shame).
I went into this trip with the intention of creating a lot more content for prints, and perhaps even a photo book!

We’ve just wrapped up our 6 week trip to Southern Africa and it’s hard to put into words how much this experience gave us. I feel like with every trip we go on, we come home with a different perspective and appreciation for the world, and an even stronger reminder of why we love to travel in the first place.

I’m such a sucker for sand dunes, especially when they rise over 300 meters straight from the ocean below. This 4x4 experience with was truly unbelievable.
Haulin’ through the dunes, dodging waves as we drove along the beach, and stopping for some delicious local food with a glass of bubbles and one heck of a view.
We even spotted some Flamingos, Jackals, and Oryx along the way!

A safari in Africa should be on everyone’s travel bucket list. Every game drive is different, every moment is completely unpredictable, and you truly never know what you’re going to witness next. That’s the addictive part!!

We just wrapped up six weeks across South Africa and Namibia, and it was the perfect balance of road trips, safaris, beach days, hiking, city time, and a bit of work along the way. If you’re planning a longer trip and want variety without feeling rushed, this itinerary was unreal.
South Africa:
Simon’s Town (2 weeks Airbnb)
A relaxed base near Boulders Beach penguins and Cape Point. We loved the small-town vibe and the scenic drive into Cape Town via Chapman’s Peak.
Gordon’s Bay (1 week Airbnb)
Perfect for coastal days near Kogel Bay Beach and the Whale Coast Route. Incredible sunsets and an easy drive out to Hermanus.
Kruger National Park
• 6-day guided safari with – an amazing intro to wildlife with everything handled.
• 5-day self-drive safari staying at Satara, Lower Sabie, Crocodile Bridge, and Skukuza (Satara was our favourite). Self-driving is easy and gives you total freedom.
Sea Point, Cape Town (3 nights)
A great place to finish the trip. Close to beaches, Lion’s Head, Table Mountain, and morning walks along the promenade (plus sooo many meals at Mojo Market).
Namibia:
Walvis Bay (3 nights)
Gateway to Sandwich Harbour. A 4x4 dune and coastline adventure with is an absolute must.
Swakopmund (5 nights)
Cape Cross Seal Colony (hold your breath, it’s stinkyyyy), beaches, dunes, great food, and an epic sunset helicopter flight with.
Sesriem (3 nights) at
The perfect base for Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Go early at sunrise, bring lots of water, and wear proper shoes, it gets HOT. The sunrise helicopter flight here was one of my favourite experiences of the entire trip.

If you think wandering through the oldest desert in the world can’t get any better, think again. We took to the skies with for a doors-off sunrise flight over Sossusvlei, and it was hands down one of the most exhilarating experiences, EVER.
From above the desert really does feel endless, stretching beyond the horizon in every direction.
The real fun started when our pilot dropped us low into the dunes, surfing along the golden ridges and between the ancient clay pans, then finishing with some sharp turns that (literally) took my breath away.
This is a flight I’ll always remember, so a special thanks to for a truly unforgettable experience.

Meet Cece, guardian and protector of Dendera Temple… and the underworld (probably).
She may look like a regular temple cat, but don’t be fooled, Cece runs this place. Watching tourists with judgmental eyes, patrolling the temple like she owns the joint, and ensuring every sunbeam is sufficiently napped in.
Honestly, I’m not sure if she’s the reincarnation of an ancient deity or just really committed to her role as queen of the courtyard. Either way, Dendera Temple wouldn’t be the same without her presence.
