Przyznaję, jestem trochę staromodny. Pewnie zresztą widać to na tym profilu, bo częściej traficie tu na historyczne wywody niż viralowe polecajki i modne insta spoty. Wolę zanurzyć się w historii i opowiadać ją po swojemu, zamiast kopiować po raz trzydziesty ten sam kadr, który wrzucają wszyscy.
A Split aż prosi się o takie spojrzenie. Bo jego największe piękno nie tkwi w lodach na Rivie czy nowym lokalu z ćevapi, tylko w warstwach historii, które nakładały się tu przez wieki. Choć możliwe też, że po prostu mam lekkiego bzika na punkcie Imperium Rzymskiego 🙃
Jeśli chcecie zrozumieć Split tak jak ja, zacznijcie od cesarza, który zbudował sobie nad Adriatykiem pałac tak potężny, że z czasem wyrosło z niego całe miasto.
Gdy upadła pobliska Salona, ludzie schronili się w jego murach. I tak cesarska rezydencja stała się najpierw schronieniem, później średniowiecznym miastem, a w końcu jednym z najbardziej fascynujących organizmów miejskich nad Adriatykiem.
Mauzoleum zamieniono w katedrę, świątynie w kościoły, rzymski układ wymieszał się z kolejnymi epokami, a potem przyszli następni: Bizancjum, Wenecja, Austriacy, Napoleon, Jugosławia i współczesna Chorwacja. Państwa się zmieniały, ale Split trwał dalej.
I chyba właśnie to fascynuje mnie najbardziej. Bo Rzym nigdy do końca się tutaj nie skończył. W wielu miejscach starożytność ogląda się zza barierek lub w muzeach. W Splicie po prostu dalej się w niej żyje.
Split to nie miasto z pałacem. To pałac, który stał się miastem.
I skoro mowa o mojej fascynacji czasami antycznymi, które miejsce polecacie najbardziej i dlaczego tam powinienem pojechać?
