We invite you to join us this Friday, Nov. 17th from 5-7 pm in the Black Student Space (Exchange Building) to learn about the many intersections between Black and Palestinian liberation struggles.
Registration required. Masks required for entry, a limited number will be available at the door for free. An ASL interpreter will be present.

"First, I would like to thank everyone who supported me in this trying time. Never in my life have I felt that anyone cared, and now I know for sure I am included in a great community. Thank you all.
I have dealt with bad situations by running away from them, never having anyone to actually listen to my cries for help. Only after taking huge risks and arriving in a good place, I found many more like myself, leading me to open up and tell my story. Only being in the Downtown Eastside have I been judged by my character and not my skin color. I took a risk and it gave me a huge reward in finding the peace I've always looked for.
For five years I’ve found pride in where I planted myself. Never have I been attacked or felt my life being in danger in a place labeled the worst place in the entirety of Canada. The feeling of dread comes from the police cars stalking me everywhere I would go. My feeling of unease comes when I see my neighbors alone, not being able to communicate, and being detained just because they appear to be unruly. Now with the support of people who don’t live in the core, I’m able to have a voice for my neighbors who lost their will to be in society.
This fight isn't just for me, but for the countless people I know and have lost in the time I’ve lived here. I would love to stay and continue being a help to those that have been forgotten in the downtown Eastside."
