Blanche Macdonald Senior Design Instructor and graduate Evan Clayton is featured in The Vancouver Sun, marking 12 powerful years of fashion that speaks from the heart. His designs have been seen on the red carpet, runway and on screen and has been worn by stars including Candice Swanepoel, Doja Cat, Carly Rae Jepsen.

His newest collection, PHYLLIS, is named after his grandmother, “a love letter to family, aging, and shared wisdom,” and draws profound inspiration from the trans community in response to today’s political climate.

“This collection imagines a world where trans women grow old, share wisdom, and are celebrated.”

With bold ’80s silhouettes, corsetry, lace, and colour, Evan’s work proves fashion can be both beautiful and brave.

Nails, but make them ART 💅🎨🔥

Our Uptown Campus turned into a full creative gallery as Nail Studio students unveiled their final nail art projects in Miz Wang’s Creative Nail Artistry class. From sculptural nails, bold colour stories, and fearless concepts, every set told a story of growth, passion, and serious creative dedication.

"This final artistic showcase was beyond amazing, and I am still speechless.

You are like my babies. Watching you grow from the very first class to now, seeing how much effort you have put in every step of the way, and how much you have inspired one another, I believe this is what makes teaching so meaningful.

I truly love sharing the things I’m passionate about with them, and watching them absorb, transform, and shine is one of the best feelings ever.

I cannot wait to see how you all continue to shine in the nail world."

Created during her time as a Global Marketing: Fashion & Social Media student, Rachelle’s in-class styling project takes us behind the scenes of her inspo, process, and creative growth.

This highly anticipated student project allows fashion students to transform their ideas into real portfolio pieces, and for Rachelle, this marked her first time stepping into the role of a stylist. Instead of following trends, she styled pieces from her own wardrobe alongside thrifted pieces, reimagining familiar items while adding character and authenticity. What started as an overwhelming process became a lesson in experimentation over perfection.

Now a recent graduate, this project remains a standout in her portfolio, marking a turning point that confirmed her passion for styling. By putting her work out into the world, she began to see how each project has the potential to open new doors and reach new audiences. She’s now stepping confidently into freelance styling, staying open to every opportunity, connection, and every creative experience ahead.

In our International Makeup Studio (IMUP) High Fashion and Cutting Edge Makeup module, students are encouraged to push their artistry to new heights. Through recreation exercises inspired by master makeup artists, they learn to analyze, interpret, and refine techniques, ultimately developing a creative voice of their own.

This module places a strong emphasis on technical skill-building and training the eye for detail, guiding students to understand not just how to create a look, but why each choice matters. In-depth discussions on tools and products provide a comprehensive foundation in product knowledge, ensuring students are equipped for both creative and professional environments.

One of the innovative tools introduced in class is the Ono Makeup Tool, a perfect example of the cutting-edge products that enrich the learning experience.

Beyond the cover, Jenna has also been behind Addison’s recent makeup looks from music videos to her tour stops across Dublin, Manchester, and London.

IN HOUSE, the creative space run by Fashion Design graduates Graham Hood (former WHL pro) and Marcus Quon and business partner Austin Ottone, crafted a custom jacket for hockey legend Alex Ovechkin and flew to DC to deliver it. By pure luck, they bumped into him while dropping it off and got to watch him try it on right there. The reactions speak for themselves.

From meeting at Blanche Macdonald in the Fashion Design program to establishing their own studio in Vancouver, IN HOUSE continues to shape the city’s creative scene through their labels and their premium merch brand.
