They needed a new pool and new footing, I also moved the pool back and dug a little to make more of a mud pit for the pigs, now we will see if they'll use it 😅
The new duck pool cost us $30 and about $100 for the truckload of polvo footing

Today we had another new duck arrive to join the Black Sheep Retreat Sanctuary family 🤍🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🤍
Sonja Katrina, the woman who partnered with me to rescue the 36 dogs from the closed hotel, ended up making a move to the right place at the right time for this sweet little duck 🤍🦆
This duck was living on a small farm with her duck family, unfortunately a place where her and the others are used for meat and eggs, until a couple weeks ago when a jaguar attacked the farm, she got away and flew herself into Sonjas pool, where she made herself at home, but she was alone 💔
Sonja spent a couple weeks feeding her and gaining her trust to try and catch her, and last night she was caught and Sonja drove her up this morning!
She's now decompressing in our quarantine space until shes medically cleared to join her new duck family, which im so excited for her to join them 🙏🏻🤍✨️
Our new duck coop, that we have been working on building for 6 months, will be 100% finished next week (its mostly finished, just have to add the footing, so its been perfect arrival times for our 2 newest duck residents...as they say, build it and they shall come 🤍🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
🦆 We are so happy we can provide a home for these souls needing a safe place to land, as a 501c3 non profit organization ran off donations, we can only do so with your support!

And even after everything, he still finds joy in the simple things — carrying sticks around the yard, playing tug, chasing bugs like they’re the most exciting thing in the world, and looking back at his person on walks just to make sure they’re still there. 🥹
Rocky is full of personality, love, and life. He’s affectionate, loyal, and deeply connected to the human he trusts.
Because of his difficult past, Rocky can be reactive around other dogs. However, he’s been putting in the work with training and has been making amazing progress.

It has been another crazy day! Im finally getting a 10 minute break, I havent stopped since 6am, when I put on my shoes to be greeted by a baby scorpion stinging my toe 🦂
Another summer day in the jungle 🌿
Between daily chores, the cattery, and fixing our internet (which i thought would be like a half hour, it has been 5 hours) i have been non stop and im just finding time to post!

99.99999% of the time, he wants pets and scratches, but if ive annoyed him (like last night, usually he brings himself in for bed, but he didnt so I had to go get him), and I guess he was not ready for bed and not happy with me for moving him inside 😅

🐑We are looking for a dedicated duo: whether a couple or two close friends- to join us for a hands on, "boots on the ground" experience.
📆The initial required commitment is 6 months.
🐷This is a unique opportunity to learn exactly what it takes to operate an animal sanctuary from the inside out while living in the beautiful Mayan jungle surrounded by rescue animals and wildlife 🦜
🦄Volunteers will be responsible for daily care of our rescued animals, including feeding, health monitoring, and daily cleaning and maintenance.
25 hours a week over 5 days. Must have morning and evening availability for morning and night feed/chores.
⛈️Please be aware that this work is demanding. You will face high humidity, tropical storms, and the emotional challenges that come with rescue work. However, for those with the right heart and stamina, this experience is profoundly rewarding.✨️
🏡In exchange for your hard work, we offer a place to call home in the Mayan jungle. Your housing, utilities, AC, hot water and Wi-Fi are fully covered.
Food is not provided. There is no stipend.

🚗Please keep in mind that sanctuary life here is semi remote. While we are immersed in the beauty of the jungle, the nearest stores are a 15 minute drive away, and the local nightlife and entertainment hubs are approximately 25 minutes by car. No sidewalks or safe biking on our road. Public transportation is limited (once an hour-ish van) and primarily operates in Spanish, so having your own vehicle/the ability to rent a vehicle or being comfortable with a more secluded, quiet lifestyle is essential. This is a place for those who truly enjoy peace and living in nature.
