A silk scarf by sparked my whole outfit today — turquoise, orange, and pure joy. This is Pleasure Dressing: starting with one thing that lights you up, and letting it inspire the rest. Dressing to feel good, not to “get it right.”
Something special is coming soon… ✨
“Document the moments you feel most in love with yourself - what you’re wearing, who you’re around, what you’re doing. Recreate and repeat.” — Warsan Shire
Here’s some of my (self) love moments:
❤️ For the love of adventure: Wearing my stack of fierce crystal necklaces from and all of my gold adornment, with, on a road trip in Southern California, in the golden sunshine, exploring and discovering new places.
❤️ For the love of sankofa: Wearing my bright bold printed culotte pants (ridiculously comfie AND cute) from, with my sister, walking through the markets in Kumasi 🇬🇭
❤️ For the love of dancing: Wearing my cherry red swishy summer skirt (a heavy rotation piece that’s been in my closet for almost a decade), alone with me, myself and I, dancing in my living room to this track 🎵 👆🏽
I’d love to know one of your “in love with yourself”moments:
What are you wearing, who are you with, and what are you doing? 👇🏽❤️
Summer madness.
“What do you love?
Now, go do it.”
Sometimes, maybe, it gets to be that easy ❤️
So here are 5 behind-the-scenes takeaways about my most recent TV segment to bust the unrealistic expectation that we should all look perfect, polished and put together 24//7.
#1 On average I spend about two weeks stressing about the clothes I’m featuring. This segment was no exception: will I secure all of the pieces in time? Will they fit properly? Will I have enough back-up looks? What if nothing works?
Takeaway: If you’re struggling to figure out what to wear this morning, I get it. It’s normal, and you’re not alone. Getting dressed can be stressful and overwhelming.
#2 One of the fears that I’m personally healing in my work, and in being “visible”, is that people will judge me as “not good enough”.
Takeaway: How we dress can be a tender topic for many of us, whether you’re in the public eye or in the eyes of your friends and family. If you find yourself lacking confidence, questioning your choices, or feeling uncomfortable, I see you and I’m standing right there with you.
#3 I sourced items from far and wide, including a dress that travelled 9,000 km from Lagos. Did it arrive on time for the show? No it did not 🤦🏽♀️
Takeaway: Finding clothes for a 9-minute TV segment takes days & days of research. So I get it when I hear someone say they don’t like shopping. So much choice, so little time to waste agonizing over sourcing the perfect pair of jeans.
#4 We fit the models backstage 60 minutes before taping the show, which means if something doesn’t work — yikes 😳. Did this happen? Yes. (More on that below). It means I have to be ok with not nailing THE PERFECT LOOK.
Takeaway: I want to start by acknowledging all of the beautiful souls who make this look easy on Insta and TV. There is skill and art here. But let’s all take a deep breath and lean into our own hot mess. Your style and how you dress gets to be imperfect. What excites me more than a Vogue-worthy outfit is how it makes you FEEL.
Head to the comments for #5 👇🏽…
I had that experience on last week when I shared one of my favourite things: shopping from independent brands & designers from around the world.
And what I mean is, going beyond the shopping mall and mainstream chain stores to experience the vast, rich, creative, beautiful clothing on offer from places far and wide. From Ghana to Guatemala, and everywhere in between.
Fun fact: my first degree was in Anthropology and International Development, with a minor in African Studies. Exploring different cultures, people and the ways we humans live, breathe and create beauty in this world is my JAM.
So as says in the intro I’ve made it my mission to showcase the BIPOC brands you need to know.
Plus, one of the best parts about being a stylist is helping a woman feel like her badass n’ brilliant self all day, every day in the clothes that she wears. Sometimes that means venturing to new places in your style, and stretching beyond your usual go-to stores or go-to looks.
Want to venture to New Orleans this July and explore your style? And do it in the company of other badass n brilliant women? The Peacock Club, my 10-week virtual styling program begins this May.

It feels good to be in such great company, alongside some of Canada’s top stylists. 🙌🏽
And it feels especially sweet to see a dream come true.
The experience has me reflecting on the power of our DESIRES.
And this is what I know:
🔥 Your desires are yours and yours alone. They don’t have to follow logic, meet expectations, look practical or make sense to anyone but YOU.
🔥 Desires want to live and breathe. Speak them, write them, share them with people you trust. Allow them to be witnessed by yourself and others.
🔥Desires are not frivolous or self-indulgent. They are the callings of your soul. And in that way, who are we to censor, edit, or play small with divine longings?
I’m going to repeat that last point again. There is nothing frivolous about your desires. From the smallest wants to the most outlandish heart-thumping dreams.
“I desire to nap even while my kids are home, I desire a jaguar print dress by, I desire my own TV series, I desire peonies on my bedside table…”
🔥Embracing your desires can lead you to where you’re meant to be, even if it’s not obvious right now.
(Yes, who knows where that jaguar print dress will take you?!)
🔥Desires run on their own timeline. Trust the timing. You might desire something sooo badly and want it to happen NOW (I know I have), and yet there is a divine timing at play.
(My magazine dream blossomed years after it first landed in my heart. My tv dreams? Over a decade!)
This is real life, everyday magic. ✨
As the Elle article says, I’m here to help you channel your deepest sartorial desires, whether it’s 1:1 with my private style coaching or in my intimate group 👇🏽
