The end of the academic year is approaching, something that is clearly visible when stepping into the Model Hall. Students across our faculty are fully engaged in completing deadlines, projects, and finalising their graduation work.

It is an intensive period, so good luck to all students in the weeks ahead. We hope you can soon look forward to a well-deserved summer break!

What should we consider global progress? Tosin Oshinowo’s public lecture on 20 April as part of her visiting professorship put this question at the centre. Her lecture challenged the dominant top-down approach to city building, built on the assumption of endless growth.

Do you enjoy the blue skies and beautiful blossoms around our faculty and across campus as much as we do? We caught a few shots, but our advice is simple: take a walk and spot all the flowers that are blooming right now! 🌸
During the Circular Economy Week, we released a new series of videos on REUSE in the built environment. These map the perspectives of different stakeholders, from deconstruction companies, designers, and engineers to insurers, policymakers, and certification agencies.

It’s exciting news that the Circularity for Educators platform is expanding with this series and to continue advocating for a systemic approach to a circular built environment. Special thanks to all speakers, who generously shared their experiences and insights with us!

Radically rethinking building and living: the Dutch housing crisis cannot be solved by speeding up more of the same. We must fundamentally rethink how we build, where we build and how we live, argue Peter Pelzer, Tess Broekmans and Steffen Nijhuis from our faculty.

Short‑term measures may add homes, but only long‑term, systemic and landscape‑based approaches will secure a safe and liveable Netherlands for future generations.

Today on International Women’s Day, we highlight Ellen van Bueren, professor at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft. Ellen is featured in the role model campaign by, celebrating women in technology and emphasizing the necessity of proper representation.

Ellen reflects on how diverse perspectives shape better cities:
“For too long, the built environment has reflected limited perspectives. By stepping into the field of architecture, you can bring ideas that make cities safer, fairer and more inclusive.”

She also shares why visibility matters:
“Role models matter — not only for girls and women, but also for men. They help all of us break free from narrow, stereotypical ideas about which careers are possible for whom.”

At TU Delft and BK, and through DEWIS – Delft Women in Science, we continue working toward a more inclusive academic environment where all voices contribute to the future of our built environment.
