Honored to join ASA in Bangkok as one of the young architects from Japan, invited by JIA President Mr. Sato. Meeting and presenting with architects from across Asia was incredibly inspiring. At the same time, it made me rethink the current situation in Japan, where architecture is becoming more industrialized and efficiency-driven due to rising costs and labor shortages.
In Southeast Asia, there’s still a strong culture of craftsmanship and hand-made construction that feels increasingly rare in Japan today. It was a valuable reminder that architecture can hold qualities beyond efficiency alone. Good conversations and time shared with everyone there. Looks like this year will bring more opportunities and connections abroad.

If Design AwardでGold賞を受賞しました！2000人を超える満席の会場で1番目に僕の小さなプロジェクトが取り上げられて壇上に登るとは思ってなかったのでビックリでしたw 1万点以上の応募の中から、AppleやSamsungなど世界中の企業やクリエイターが挑戦する「世界三大デザインアワード」のひとつで、建築分野の最高賞を頂けたこと、本当に嬉しく思います。さらに世界各国のメディアから取材のお話もいただいていて、これから発信の機会が一気に広がりそうです。関係者の皆さま、そしていつも支えてくれる家族やスタッフのみんなのお陰様です。本当にありがとうございます。これからも謙虚に貪欲に挑戦を続けていきます！
さて、これからバンコクに移動だ。
結果としては受賞には届かず、次点という悔しい結果に終わりましたが、審査の中で「酒井にも新人賞を与えるか」という議論の土俵に上がれたこと自体は、とても嬉しくもあり、同時に悔しさの残る経験でした。公開審査は、審査基準や投票方法までもその場で決めていく感じの超透明感で非常に刺激的でした笑
また、末光さんに推して頂けた事は大きな励みになったし、松山さんからの愛あるクリティークと今後への期待の言葉も、本当に貴重な経験でした。
改めて、新人賞を受賞された井出さん、本当におめでとうございます！この悔しさを糧に、次こそはしっかり結果を出せるよう、引き続き精進していきます。

「もう2度と平日に宴会はしない！！」と
翌朝の夫婦会議で誓いました笑

Designed by Sakai Architects for his own family, this 119 m² home is organized as a cluster of five independent volumes inspired by the traditional buntō typology of the island.
Deep eaves, elevated structure, natural ventilation, and passive shading strategies respond intelligently to the subtropical climate. The house operates entirely off-grid with solar power, while leftover timber fuels a wood-fired sauna and organic waste is composted back into the garden.
A closed-loop, resilient home that seamlessly blends modern autonomy with communal island living and respect for local building traditions.

「奄美大島の家」がグランプリ・谷尻賞・石川賞、
「報恩寺納骨堂」が建築部門ゴールド・サステナブル特別賞を受賞しました。
1人で5つもの賞を頂き、感無量です。
こうして結果に繋がったのは、間違いなく日頃から応援してくれている皆さんのお陰様です。改めて、こんなにも応援してくれる友人がたくさんいることが幸せです。本当にありがとうございます。また、非常に困難な施工要求の中でやり遂げてくれた、シマの施工チームにも心から感謝しています。
また、サポーズの谷尻さんやSANUの石川さんから特別賞という形で評価を頂けたことや、尊敬する建築家の手塚さんや赤松さんから良いFBも頂けたことは大きな励みになりました。単に投票数の結果だけではなく、審査員の方々からも評価を頂けた事は、大きな自信にも繋がりました。
最近、国内外のさまざまなアワードに応募し続けている理由は一つ。奄美大島で私たちと一緒に設計活動していく仲間を増やす為です。
私たちは、自然の中に身を置きながら、「暮らし」を軸とした建築の「在り方」を探求しています。風や光、季節の移ろいとともにある空間を、一緒につくっていきませんか。
