Every parent wants to keep their child safe. But here’s what data shows about the actual risks today.

📈 Vaccine‑preventable diseases are rising again because fewer children are fully immunised. This isn’t hypothetical — it’s happening now:

• Measles outbreaks are surging globally and locally. In 2024, measles cases in Europe and Central Asia more than doubled compared with the previous year — the highest level since 1997. Young children made up a large portion of that surge.

• In the UK, confirmed measles cases shot up to almost 3,000 in 2024 — a dramatic rise from previous years — mostly in unvaccinated children.

• Global estimates show more than 10 million measles cases in 2023, a 20% increase compared to 2022, linked directly to drops in routine vaccination coverage.

• Pertussis (whooping cough) has also increased. In England alone, there were over 14,000 lab‑confirmed cases in 2024, including hundreds of infants under 3 months — the age group at highest risk of severe disease — and multiple deaths.

• Other vaccine‑preventable diseases like polio are re‑emerging in parts of the world where vaccines aren’t reaching children, and vaccine‑derived outbreaks have been detected in environmental samples in Europe.

📊 Why this matters:
Diseases like measles aren’t mild childhood illnesses — they can lead to pneumonia, encephalitis, hearing loss, long‑term disability, or death. Vaccines aren’t perfect, but high coverage prevents spread and protects the whole community, especially infants and immunocompromised children.

📍 In the UK, current MMR coverage is well below the 95% needed to prevent outbreaks — and that gap is driving disease resurgence.

💡 Bottom line: Choosing not to vaccinate increases your child’s risk of catching real, rising threats — and contributes to outbreaks that put many other children at risk too.

For years in the NHS, the message was always the same: build more resilience.
Come what may.
No one suggested the system, management, or even patients could or should change — it was on us to adapt, to be the bigger person, to keep going.

“Wellbeing” often meant a two-hour Teams meeting, with no movement, no incentive, and very little real support. Over time, it’s easy to develop a kind of Stockholm syndrome — normalising an environment where pay can stagnate or drop, stress is endless, and when things go wrong, the blame can feel like it lands squarely on your shoulders.

This is me — in actual Stockholm — on an actual work wellbeing retreat.
Two months into the role. One month into a pay rise. All-inclusive. Supported. Respected.
It was a gentle reminder that things can feel different when the environment and culture actually prioritise you.

Sometimes the bravest thing is recognising you don’t have to settle for endurance being the measure of your worth.

For a lot of neurodivergent people, what gets labelled as “immature” is often just unmasked joy, curiosity, play, and regulation. We’re taught early to tone it down, sit still, be quieter, be more palatable — and it’s exhausting. Masking takes cognitive energy, emotional labour, and nervous system capacity that most people never have to think about.

Being childish isn’t a failure to grow up. Sometimes it’s a sign you finally feel safe enough to be yourself. Play, spontaneity, and doing things simply because they feel good aren’t flaws — they’re often how our brains regulate, reset, and reconnect.

So yes. Be immature. Be childish.
Masking is exhausting anyway.

Here’s your sign to do the ‘childish’ thing society told you to grow out of ❄️
Play isn’t immaturity — it’s biology. Unstructured, joyful movement activates dopamine (motivation and reward), reduces cortisol (stress), and supports parasympathetic nervous system regulation. In adults, playful behaviour is linked to improved mood, emotional resilience, creativity, and even better stress recovery. When life feels heavy, the nervous system doesn’t need more discipline — it needs safety, novelty, and joy. Sometimes that looks like lying in the snow and making an angel.”

We grew up being told never to settle for mediocrity.
Be different. Be exceptional. Be more.

Somewhere along the way, “not settling” became a performance.
Everyone curating uniqueness.
Everyone branding their difference.
Everyone fighting to stand out in the same crowded way.

And quietly, the thing we were trying to escape
— mediocrity —
just changed its outfit.

Maybe the goal was never to be louder, sharper, or more visible.
Maybe it was to be honest.
To be deep instead of impressive.
To be aligned instead of admired.

Because when everyone is trying to stand out,
authenticity becomes the rarest thing in the room. #modernculture #authenticityoveraesthetic #depthoverhype #quietconfidence #selfreflection identity meaningfulliving thoughtfulcontent culturalcommentary generationtalk innerwork alignmentoverapproval slowthinking beinghuman consciousliving
