He first started turning heads when he took Florida Atlantic to the 2023 Final Four. In just two years with the Wolverines, he's led the program to its second-ever national title, the first since 1989.
The Delta Xi chapter of Beta Theta Pi at Eastern Kentucky University regrets to announce the passing of Brother Christian Dunn Roll #908. Christian passed unexpectedly on March 18th. As a dedicated student, Christian excelled, continuously achieving a 4.0. Christian joined our chapter in Spring of 2024 and since initiating has taken a step up and held the position of Risk Manager in charge of keeping our brothers safe. Something Christian was always admired for, looking after the people around him and always making any room he walked into light up. Christian you will be missed by all.
The Delta Xi chapter of Beta Theta Pi will be holding a vigil on April 9th in the Keen Johnson Plaza at 9pm. All are welcome and encouraged to join us as we remember a great man gone too soon.
It is with deep regret the Fraternity announces the January 25 passing of sports media executive and Oxford Cup honoree Geoff Mason, Duke ’63. Suffering from complications of lung cancer, he was 85.
Born in Englewood, New Jersey, and initiating into the Gamma Rho Chapter in 1960, Mason graduated with a degree in sociology. Though starting his career at the Boston Herald covering the yachting beat, he would become one of sports television’s most accomplished executives. Mason worked for ABC, NBC, Fox, ESPN and the NFL Network throughout his five decades in the industry, producing coverage of countless events, including seven Olympics, Monday Night Football, Major League Baseball, Indy 500, Triple Crown, PGA, Wimbledon, U.S. Open, British Open, Formula 1, Tour de France, six World Cups and multiple America’s Cup races.
The pace of the work took its toll on Brother Mason, however. In September 1983, he checked himself into the Betty Ford Center for alcoholism. Thankfully, by the end of the year, he was back on his feet and returned to NBC. He remained grateful for the Center’s support, devoting much of his life to helping others in their recovery journey and serving for 22 years on the Center's board of directors. He developed a close friendship with the Ford family and eulogized the former first lady at her 2011 funeral.
Mason helped coordinate coverage of the 1972 Munich Olympics hostage tragedy, marking a pivotal point in sports broadcasting. His experience, and that of the ABC Sports team, was dramatized in the 2024 film “September 5.” In 2003, he was on the launch team of the NFL Network.
Brother Mason’s work certainly did not go unrecognized. Having won 25 Emmys throughout his career, he was inducted into the National Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame in December of 2010. He was presented with the Oxford Cup, Beta’s highest honor for professional achievement, at the Fraternity’s 2015 General Convention in Orlando, Florida.
Serving as a great example for all Betas in the passionate pursuit of excellence — and service for the greater good — may Roll No. 472 of the Gamma Rho Chapter rest in peace.
Nate Douglas, Washington ’08, has taken mountaineering to the extreme. After a trip to Antarctica, he became the first Beta known to have completed the Seven Summits — the highest mountain on each continent. Everest in Asia, Aconcagua in South America, North America's Denali, Africa's Kilimanjaro, Europe's Elbrus, Vinson in Antarctica and Oceania's Carstensz Pyramid all summited. The list of additional mountains he's stood atop of also includes Seven Summit alternatives Mont Blanc in Europe and Kosciuszko in Australia.

His 2025 expeditions included the summit of Annapurna I, the 10th tallest mountain in the world and one of the most technically challenging over 8,000 meters. Now, Nate is ready for his next challenge; there's always another mountain to climb.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Ryder Harrington, a member of the Fall 2024 Pledge Class.
Ryder was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose kindness and presence touched countless lives. From the moment he joined our brotherhood, he brought a light that was impossible to ignore. Ryder had a rare ability to truly enjoy life to make people laugh, to make moments feel bigger, and to make ordinary days unforgettable. If anyone embodied what it meant to live fully and love deeply, it was Ryder.
His character and genuine spirit made our chapter stronger and our friendships deeper. The energy he carried, the joy he spread, and the way he made everyone feel welcome are things we will never forget. He made the world around him better simply by being in it.
During this incredibly difficult time, we ask that everyone keep the Harrington family in their thoughts and prayers. Let us come together as brothers and as a community to honor Ryder’s life, support one another, and carry forward the light he brought into our lives. Additionally there is a go fund me link in our bio to help support the Harrington family.
On we will be having a candle light vigil to honor Ryder at 8:00pm.
