Taipei vs. Kaohsiung feels like two different countries. Taipei: dense, chaotic, buzzing. Kaohsiung: tropical, spacious, almost empty in the best way. Visit both!
No trash cans anywhere. Even fewer than in Japan. Yet everything is spotless.
English menus are rare. Most places hand you a checklist menu in Chinese, but locals are always patient and helpful.
Every convenience store has tea eggs (savory, tea-infused hard-boiled eggs). And people actually hang out there.
The high-speed train network is incredible. You can even cancel your ticket up to 30 minutes before departure and get fully refunded.
You can smell the amazing noodle soups everywhere. 🍜
The island is lush and green. I didn’t get to explore the nature this time. A road trip is officially on my list.
The food? It’s Taiwan! 😋

Beyond the famous spots (which never felt overcrowded), the real experience happens when you just get lost. There’s a high chance you’ll find yourself alone in a glen with a hundred sheep as your only company. 🐑

The 400-meter-long Tham Krasae Viaduct in Kanchanaburi, Thailand was built by hand into the cliffs in 1943 and has a very dark past. Today it is one of Thailand’s most iconic train rides.
You can walk the tracks directly along the cliffside, but it’s a 20-meter drop if you’re not careful. Oh, and you also need to watch out for trains, of course. 😉

It all started with an iPhone 4.
Posting “real camera” photos on Instagram was a no-go back then.
“Influencers” were an unknown species.
The feed was strictly chronological – no algorithm trying to hack your dopamine levels.
And today’s popular Insta-destinations like Lisbon, Bali, or Japan hadn’t yet suffered from overtourism.
Probably not the most engaging speech for a birthday, but still: thank you so much for following, liking, commenting, sharing – or just quietly looking at my photos. 🙏🥳
It truly means a lot!
Here are 15 of my personal favorite Berlin photos I’ve taken over the years. Cheers, Michael.
Leave a comment – since when have you been following me? I’m really curious! 👀
⠀
I could tell you now how awesome and creative the Instagram community was in the first years. It was, indeed!
⠀
But the thing is – even though so much has changed: I’m still burning for photography, enthusiastic to capture that special moment, to master the equipment, to learn new editing skills, to travel and explore. And many other people here on Instagram do as well – and that is inspiring.
⠀
Thanks so much for following me. 🙏
⠀
Here are 10 of my favorites shots out of 6.990 photos (Tokyo, Istanbul, Lisbon, Berlin, St. Petersburg, Mandalay, Hongkong, Seoul, Bangkok, Shanghai).

Cheers!
