For over 30 years, Tasmanian Leatherwood honey and beeswax have been the heart and soul of almost everything we make. They soften, soothe, protect and nourish your skin in ways that nothing synthetic has ever come close to. But before any of that magic reaches you, there’s a bee (hundreds of thousands of bees) doing the quiet, tireless, extraordinary work that makes it all possible.
Bees aren’t a nice-to-have. They’re not a quirky brand mascot. They pollinate more than 75% of the world’s food crops and 90% of all wild flowering plants, the living systems that keep this planet turning. Without them, the shelves of our supermarkets would look very, very bare. No blueberries. No almonds. No coffee. No cucumbers. No Leatherwood honey.
And yet, bee populations are declining worldwide, threatened by habitat loss, pesticides, climate change, and industrial farming practices that ask too much and give back too little. The scale of that loss matters to ecosystems, to farmers, to the future of food, and yes, to small Tasmanian businesses like ours.
We celebrate bees by choosing them, carefully and always. That means sourcing our honey and beeswax from a single, ethical, local family whose values match ours. It means never using bee venom in our products (because our buzzy friends have enough on their plates). It means supporting the protection of the wild places our bees call home.
We owe them everything. They’ve been nourishing us for millennia, without asking for anything in return.
Today, on World Bee Day, we’re raising a jar of golden Leatherwood honey to every bee who ever flew a flower, danced a waggle, or worked herself to the bone for the love of it. And we’re asking you to do your bit too. Plant flowers, buy local honey, avoid pesticides in your garden, and support businesses that treat bees as partners, not commodities.
The bees are doing their part. Let’s do ours.
Happy World Bee Day, beautiful creatures. We’d be nothing without you.
The one you don't think about until you run out, and then suddenly it's all you can think about. The scent you'd recognise blindfolded. The bar that's been on rotation so long it just is your bathroom now.
We've been hand-making soap in small batches in Tasmania since 1993, and the loveliest part of that is hearing which one became yours. The patchouli-and-rose devotees. The green clay loyalists. The goat's milk faithful who will not be moved. The ones who quietly buy the same bar every single time and have done for over a decade.
(That's just a few of the family pictured here. There are plenty more where these came from.)
So, tell us, which Beauty & The Bees bar has earned a permanent spot in your bathroom, and how long has it been there? We genuinely love these stories.
What happens in Vegas… apparently includes a little jar of Tasmanian honey cream.
This little jar started life in our humble little factory in Tasmania. Tasmanian Leatherwood honey and beeswax from World Heritage rainforests, cold-pressed plant oils, healing calendula, all blended by hand in small batches the way we've done it since 1993.
Then someone tucked it in their bag and took it roughly 13,000 kilometres to the brightest corner of Nevada. (We're fairly sure our humble jar has never seen this much glitter.)
There's something genuinely lovely about a product made by a small team on a quiet island turning up in people's lives all over the world. It never gets old.
So we have to ask, where in the world has your Beauty & The Bees gone? Tell us in the comments, and bonus points for a photo. We'd love to see them in their natural (or wildly unnatural) habitat. 🌏
That cheerful little yellow flower? That's Camelina sativa, the hardy plant behind it. Its seeds have been pressed for their golden oil across Northern Europe for centuries, long before anyone thought to invent the word "skincare."
These days, ours is grown by farmers we know by name, on the basalt plains of South-West Victoria, then stirred by hand into our formulations here in Tasmania.
And it turns up in more places than you'd think. Our shampoo bar. Our facial cleansing bar. Our hand creams. Our body creams. One ingredient, quietly woven through four corners of the range. Lightweight, omega-rich and naturally generous with vitamin E, nourishing skin and hair without weighing anything down.
One ancient seed. One Australian farm. One small Tasmanian workshop.
We've told the full story on the Beehive Blog. Where it comes from, why we keep reaching for it, and how one little golden flower ended up doing so many different jobs. Pop over and have a read. Link to Beehive Blog in bio.
Just another example of how we keep it Raw, Rare, Real.
