Ik ging naar het ziekenhuis voor een gewone, tweewekelijkse check-up van de tweeling. Niets spannends, gewoon routine.
Sinds kort doen ze bij tweelingzwangerschappen tot 24 weken standaard ook cervixmetingen. Die had ik bij de 20-weken-echo, toen ik 19 weken was, al gehad en toen was alles helemaal goed. Mijn cervix was 3,5 cm, lekker lang. Dus eerlijk gezegd maakte ik me geen zorgen toen ze zeiden dat ze die dag opnieuw gingen meten. Ik vond het eigenlijk vooral een fijn idee dat ze extra checkten.
Tijdens de meting bleek mijn cervix ineens 2,7 cm te zijn. Dat was even slikken. Geen paniek, maar wel een duidelijke verandering in korte tijd. Bij een eenling is een verkorte cervix al een aandachtspunt en bij een tweeling sowieso. In combinatie met mijn voorgeschiedenis, mijn eerdere zwangerschap met een ziekenhuisopname rond 28 weken en het feit dat ik altijd veel harde buiken heb, namen ze dit serieus.
De ondergrens ligt rond de 2,5 cm en ik zat er met 2 millimeter net boven. Omdat cervixmetingen best kunnen verschillen per arts en per meetmoment, spraken we af dat ik de volgende dag terug zou komen om opnieuw te meten en te kijken of de meting hetzelfde zou uitkomen.
De volgende ochtend ging ik opnieuw naar het ziekenhuis. Eerst kreeg ik mijn ijzerinfus, die stond ook al gepland, en daarna volgde de nieuwe cervixmeting. Toen bleek hij verder verkort te zijn, naar 2,2 cm. Op dat moment gingen bij het OLVG de alarmbellen af. In overleg met het AMC ben ik diezelfde dag doorgestuurd voor opnieuw onderzoek en beoordeling.
In het AMC werd opnieuw gemeten en daar vonden ze de lengte te kort. Ze vertelden me over een lopend wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar cervixcerclage bij tweelingen, omdat het bij eenlingen bewezen werkt maar bij tweelingen nog niet goed duidelijk is. Dat stuk hoort bij het volgende deel van dit verhaal.
In de video stop ik bij het moment dat ik nog op 2,7 cm zat en begon met progesteron. Dit alles speelde zich af over meerdere dagen. Het lijkt snel in beeld, maar er zat veel tijd, overleg en meten tussen. Wordt vervolgd 🤍
