Ad| One minute I’m damp in Wales, the next I’m defrosting in Gran Canaria with a pina colada in hand.
We stayed at (honestly… stunning), flopped between about seven pools, ate dinner in a safari tent for reasons I still can’t fully explain, wandered around Puerto de Mogán, went on a boat, ate an ice cream, and briefly discussed moving here forever.
Gosh, we needed this. Proper vitamin D reset.

Then posters of giant sized Hong Kong French toast and Char siu beigels made both our heads turn. Right there. On Brick Lane. About 20 metres away.
At that point, walking past would’ve been rude.
Brick Lane’s usually all about curry houses and beigels, so this one genuinely caught me off guard - and anyone who knows me knows I’m never saying no to char siu pork.
You can have it solo, with cream cheese, or with scrambled egg. I wanted all three (obviously), but the McDonald’s-style ordering screen humbled me real quick, so pork + egg it was. Crisis managed.
Meanwhile Llio - who hadn’t had dessert in at least a few hours - went straight for the sweet stuff. Hong Kong French toast and two Hong Kong milk teas with condensed milk. No notes. Zero hesitation, although the tea was a bit too sweet and rich for both us.
The beigels? Fresh from the legendary Beigel Shop across the road. Proper ones. Squidgy, dense, no stupid massive hole ruining your life mid-bite.
The eggs were silky, beautifully soft. I could’ve done with a bit more char siu, not gonna lie, but what was there? Elite. A few slithers of spring onion on top pretending we’d made a healthy choice.
That Hong Kong French toast though… golden, crispy, dripping in joy and stuffed with peanut butter. Light syrup, a wedge of butter, maple on the table if you fancy going rogue - although it could’ve done with being warmed up a touch, as it was like trying to get blood out of a stone.
Even four cocktails and a pickleback deep, I remember thinking: this would cure absolutely any hangover. We only meant to try “a little something”… but being surrounded by tables full of proper scran made that decision very questionable. Safe to say, we’re going back.
First up next time: the Hong Kong curry taking pride of place on posters on the walls, satay beef, and the pork chop bun.
This is Hoko Hong Kong Cafe on Brick Lane, top end near Bethnal Green Road and yeah… I’ll definitely be back.

Ned’s Feast at The Ned is £120 a head (or £190 if you go for the champagne that just… keeps quietly arriving). You 2 hours of unlimited everything — lobster, oysters, roasts, salads, the lot. It’s the kind of lunch that sounds like a very good idea and a mild personality test.
Let’s start with the important bit: usually in a buffet like this, the veg are a bit… tired. But everything was actually really well done. Even the roasties — crispy outside, fluffy inside. And yes, there is unlimited, pour-your-own gravy. Which feels both dangerous and correct.
The beef was cooked perfectly. The pork porchetta was genuinely excellent. Huge pigs in blankets, big Yorkshires, and proper bread sauce — which I will always support, in any court of law.
The seafood is cold (and I am a hot garlic butter kind of person), but it’s still very good. The salad bar is fresh, the oysters are great, and the sausage roll was weirdly one of the best things there oh and the salmon wellington
Desserts are nice — nothing life-changing — but the build-your-own crumble is the emotional core of the experience.
It’s actually a really calm, civilised affair. No chaos. No plate-stacking competitions. There’s live jazz, which makes everything feel more special and slightly more grown-up.
Service was genuinely excellent. Just a small emotional footnote: there’s a 14.5% service charge on top.
Would I do it again? Probably not — there are too many other places in London I want to eat. Am I glad I did it? Absolutely.
If you’re looking for a big, special, slightly unhinged Sunday lunch in London — this is quite the experience.

This place is doing proper New York–style pizza — big, foldable slices, crisp base, light dough, but with serious Italian ingredients doing the work behind the scenes. The flour, the tomatoes, the cheese… it’s all intentional. No gimmicks. No over-complication. Just really good pizza.
What made it stand out even more? Vincenzo’s Pizza isn’t just about the food.
Tom, the owner himself was floating around, checking in with tables, chatting to customers, making sure everyone was happy. That kind of care changes the whole experience, you feel it the second you walk in.
It’s the sort of place you stumble upon, order one slice… then immediately plan when you’re coming back.

No fluff, no misses, just properly good food, done with care.
This January, one of the best places to eat in Cardiff is offering 50% off, and honestly… it’s a gift. Classic brasserie dishes, generous portions, and the kind of cooking that reminds you why going out to eat should feel special.
If you’re planning where to eat in Cardiff this January, put this top of the list, but be quick, tables are going fast and it’s not hard to see why.
We are booking in for every single one, yep. There’s no diet this January.

I didn’t realise what was missing in my life until I saw Penarth’s newest restaurant opening, serving up golden, bubbling lobster thermidor on a sunny terrace, overlooking boats drifting through the Bristol Channel. Cue instant serotonin boost.
(yes, the same team behind the Roath & High Street spots) is now serving £30 lobster thermidor every Thursday, and let me tell you - it’s generous, cooked to perfection, and dressed so you won’t need to wrestle with claws for a bite of that tender, white flesh.
The sauce? Dreamy. The fries? Ideal dunking tools. The vibe? Immaculate.
We warmed up with Bloody Mary oysters (that plate!), a pork & white pudding scotch egg, and fish cake with tartare sauce before diving into lobster heaven.
Ended on a high with Amalfi lemon tart & crème caramel, and washed it all down with signature cocktails and well-paired wine.
Big flavours, coastal views, and lobster on a Thursday? Yeah… I’m in.

We drove 40 miles down to Swansea to discover if this is truly the BEST sandwich in Wales - and honestly, we weren't prepared for what we found.
Their legendary 16-hour smoked brisket with blistered cheese, brioche bun, and pickled chillies had us from the first bite.
But wait, there's more! Their new menu dropped, and we couldn't resist the cherry beef and pickles and my fave, the katsu pork - 6-hour smoked pulled pork, cheese, raspberry jam, katsu curry AND cornflake dust. Pure filth in the best way possible.
Going hard or going home, we tried the dessert sandwich - Joe's vanilla ice cream, peanut butter, strawberry compote with crispy streaky bacon and sea salt. Shouldn't work, but it absolutely DOES!
Even their drinks are next level - a few different concoctions of homemade iced tea, but the Witch Doctor lemonade is where it raised an eybrow or two. A mixture of different sodas, including raspberry soda, iron brew, dill pickles, and pickle juice. Wild concept, incredible taste.
I nearly needed a wheelbarrow to wheel me out, after that sandwich feast.
Find Grandad at Oxford Street, Swansea - and they're opening a second spot in Sketty, Swansea, in a couple of weeks.
