While my family is culturally muslim, both Eid holidays were always a very festive time. They are celebrated as national holidays, so everyone would be off and it would be special opportunity to spend time together.
When I was younger and still lived in Turkey, the extended family would gather at my grandparents’ house. Lots of laughter, cheers, delicious food and especially for Eid al-Fitr at the end of Ramadan, many desserts. Homemade baklava. My parents are now celebrating the Eid with my aunts, the baklava is made. I will enjoy the festivities through the video call and will try to find some pistachio baklava in Chicago!
