Babe has a condition called Gingival Hyperplasia, which caused her gums to grow down over her molars. Her gum line had to be cut back and resected. Once they got in there, there were a couple other pre-molars that had grown in sideways and were creating pockets. She ended up having 4 pre-molars removed as well as the 2 tiny front teeth that were starting to push out.
With all of Babe’s allergies I was nervous about finding a soft food that was not only comfortable for her to eat post-surgery, but also would support her recovery. The Nutrience Freeze Dried Raw was the perfect option for her since it has added probiotics, prebiotics and omegas to support her gut health. This was really important to me since she was given antibiotics post surgery! When soaked it was nice and soft and comfortable for her to eat with a sore mouth.

Poor little Babe had to have dental surgery yesterday. She had a condition called “Gingival Hyperplasia” where her gums were growing down over her teeth.
They resected and brought back the gum line, and upon doing so also found that a bunch of her pre-molars were sideways which was causing them to be pushed out and the roots were showing some signs of decay.
She also had some issues with her teeny front teeth (my personal favourites) where the gum was receding and they were pushing together and becoming wiggly.
They ended up taking out 6 teeth total, 2 at the front and then 4 of the smaller pre-molars. Luckily it won’t affect her chewing and I’m sure she will be feeling so much better once she’s all healed up.
The only symptom she was showing was stinky breath - this started a couple months ago, but otherwise she was showing no trouble eating. Last night was tough for her, but she’s in much better spirits today and healing up well so far.
Thank you to everyone who sent along well wishes. I know we aren’t active on here much anymore, but times like this I love that I can jump back into this community for support 🤍

We have been taking it easy, I’ve been letting my hands rest after braiding all summer and I’ve been soaking up all the time with Tilley since my lease will be done as of tomorrow with her.
we had a fantastic show season, she and I both learned so much and I’m thrilled with the progress she’s made since her first show in Ohio. I’m really excited that she has 2 girls sharing her next year and she will be staying at our barn! Looking forward to seeing what they accomplish together!
I’ll be spending this next year with a lovely mare named Willow. She’s 10, but hasn’t done a whole lot before this past summer. I’ll also be taking the time to break a 2.5 yr old pony. He’s the sweetest little guy and will likely end up a medium pony. And of course I’m sure I’ll get to play with Greer and Tilley a bit as well still 🤍
Babe has been great, aside from a cyst on her foot and some tummy upset this week she’s been her usual snoozy gremlin self.
Making it a goal to get out and do more hiking with her this fall and winter. We slacked a bit last year and I’m missing it!

This weekend has felt really heavy. Between seeing what people are experiencing with the hurricane, and losing a couple horses suddenly at our barn and a few other things, it’s been a lot.
While I’m not physically affected, I can’t help but have a heavy hard as I see so many people experiencing so much loss right now.

Here are a couple ways we combat allergy season! It’s important to remember that every dog is different, and trial and error to find the best support for your own dog is the best way to go!
1. Good Diet - SubZero Limited Ingredient Duck & Pear Recipe has been incredible for Babe as she deals with both food and environmental allergies. This recipe supports her overall health and is high in protein to keep her feeling good through the allergy season! They even have added omegas, vitamins, and minerals which are great allergy supports.
2. Local bee pollen is a great way to support environmental allergies. I love using straight bee pollen, or pollen infused honey. Using local pollen is a great way to expose your dog to local pollens and build their immunity to them.
3. Immune boosting supplement chews are another easy way to ensure her immune system is the best it can be, I like to choose a mushroom based supplement.
4. Regular baths help to remove allergens and keep Babe’s coat and skin healthy and moisturized. I use a gentle shampoo that is easy to wash out along with a conditioner.
5. Antihistamines have been essential for the high pollen days to help give Babe an extra boost. Ask your vet for the best dosage and type for your dog! We use both Claritin and Reactine which help with her watery eyes and itchy skin.
