In Alexandra Averbach’s paintings, stacked teacups and fruit become precisely balanced visual spaces. The objects appear familiar and fragile at once. Plates rest on narrow edges, cups seem as if they could topple at any moment, yet remain in balance.
Averbach is interested in the instant just before movement begins. Light plays a central role in her work. Sunlight hits porcelain and glossy surfaces, creating reflections, sharp shadows, and strong contrasts of color. This precise control of light, material, and surface closely connects her paintings to the tradition of Photorealism.
Like earlier Photorealists, Averbach explores how perception is constructed and how everyday objects become carefully composed images. Her works feel calm and tense at once — like frozen seconds before collapse.
