The American University in Baghdad - Iraq proudly conferred an Honorary Doctorate upon Judge Dr. Faiq Zaidan, in recognition of his distinguished role and significant contributions to public life and state institutions. This honor reflects the University’s vision of recognizing influential national figures who contribute to the stability and prosperity of Iraq. Dr. Zaidan was also presented with the Commencement Speaker Medallion.
The awarding of honorary doctorates is a longstanding tradition in American and international higher education systems, granted to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their societies and institutions. Dr. Zaidan’s recognition comes in appreciation of his pivotal role in leading Iraq’s judicial system, strengthening the rule of law and the authority of the state, as well as his continued support for education and academic advancement in Iraq.
AUIB’s Second Annual Commencement Ceremony was honored by the presence of His Excellency President Nizar Amedi, Judge Dr. Faiq Zidan, former Prime Ministers Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani and Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, alongside ministers, diplomats, and business leaders. The distinguished guests were welcomed by AUIB leadership and founders, including Founding Father Dr. Saadi Waheeb Saihood, Dr. Michael Mulnix, Dr. Bradley Cook, and Eng. Hussein Saadi Saihood, marking a proud milestone in AUIB’s academic journey.

In a grand celebration attended by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Nizar Amidi, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Dr. Faiq Zidan, former Prime Ministers, Mr. Mohammad Al-Sudani and Mr. Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, a number of Ministers, and some of Iraq’s most prominent statesmen, diplomats, and business leaders, the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) celebrated the graduation of its second undergraduate class in various specializations and its first Master in Business Administration class.
Before the host of graduates’ families and friends, distinguished guests, and members of AUIB faculty and staff in attendance, the graduating students marched at the front of the academic procession that included senior faculty members, AUIB’s Founding Father and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Saadi Waheeb Saihood, the university’s Founding President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Michael Mulnix, and university President, Dr. Bradley Cook.
