It is extraordinary.
We arrived by pure chance, looking for a place surrounded by a preserved nature and close from the sea, a large 18th-century house that hadn’t been overly modified and that would allow us to pursue Atelier Vime’s new projects, in continuity with its Provençal sister.
It will be a small, perfectly proportioned, human-scale, « classique » château, with only valleys as views several sorings and a pond.
Bravo to these humans who left this pièce of earth alone, it is becoming rare.
Once must have been incredibly inspired to have created such a poetic place in 1730.
Built to be the country home of a famous family from Bayeux and Caen, it was enhanced by four farms and land extending to the sea.
We are gratefull to the de C de S-L family for handing over the reins to us.
It wasn’t planned, but a month ago we were able to reclaim the full land belonging to the château and can now restore its original tree avenue perspective, gardens and further protect this precious place.
Reclaiming land in France can be very time-consuming, complicated, and sometimes impossible for generations.
A lot of chateaux etc have lost they land around.
Thank you to the P family and Mr. M, former tenant farmers at the château.
When we signed, they told us, « it had to go back to the château, as it was».

Making a cosy room while all the rest is on renovation.
We found a beautiful 18thC bed in the attics and made a canopy with antic linen sheets.
Mixed with a 19thC Aubusson carpet, an 18thC « table à la tronchin » by cabinet maker Jean Caumont and a little blue metal 18thC lamp called « lampe bouillotte ».
