“In Corigliano Rossano, with Piazza Santa Maria ad Nives, we wanted to demonstrate that regeneration should not belong exclusively to large metropolises, but must inhabit every scale and every context, especially in our South. Restoring the square to a pedestrian dimension, redefining it through local materials, light, and greenery, means turning public space into a social and cultural infrastructure. It is architecture ceasing to be just a physical artifact and becoming a scenario for life, encounters, and community.” — AF (Alfonso Femia)

A Corigliano Rossano, con la piazza Santa Maria ad Nives, abbiamo voluto dimostrare che la rigenerazione non deve appartenere solo alle grandi metropoli, ma deve abitare ogni scala e ogni contesto, soprattutto nel nostro Sud. Restituire la piazza alla dimensione pedonale, ridefinirla attraverso la materia locale, la luce e il verde, significa fare dello spazio pubblico un’infrastruttura sociale e culturale. È l’architettura che smette di essere solo manufatto e diventa scenario di vita, di incontro e di comunità” AF

Sky and roots: Memory of the Place
We imagined this project to be rooted in a respectful dialogue with the existing landscape,
adopting the majestic trees present on the plot as fundamental “natural totems.”
A project where architecture doesn’t erase the past, but learns to dialogue with nature and memory in Senegal.
In this school, design adapts to the land following the philosophy of “Frugal Modernity”:
Tree-guided architecture: The site’s massive trees are the true “totems” of the project, with community and learning spaces organically shaping around them.
Climate-smart design: Perfectly oriented to catch prevailing winds, featuring earth block walls to keep interiors cool and a bamboo facade that shields from the sun while letting the building breathe.
Inside, suspended ceilings made of locally woven fabrics turn harsh, blinding sunlight into a soft, welcoming glow.
